How to Fix This Country

There is a way to fix this country but the government and the majority will never agree to it. Never. The answer is quite simple actually. Legalize drugs, gambling, prostitution, and pass personal protection laws. You do those and most of the problems we have today will be go down dramatically.

Currently due to those 3 things being illegal, we have a large criminal element. Due to the large criminal element, we need more police. Due to the need for more police, we live in tyranny.

If you were to legalize those 3 things, a few things would happen.

1st. cartels and drug dealers would be out of business. There would be nothing that they could peddle on a grand scale. Gangs wouldn’t make money on those things in the scale they do now and they would just be left with turf wars for nothing for the most part.

2nd. Police would not be needed in the grand scale that they currently are. Sure they would be needed for murders, robberies, burglaries, and rapes, but that would be kept to the minimum with self defense laws and total focus by the police on those crimes. Gone would be the need for No Knock Raids for drugs and guns because since they will now be legal, SWAT will be relegated to just criminal barricades and antiterrorism which is rare. Gone would be the need for searches and every negative thing that comes along with it at car stops. Gone would be the need for K9 drug dogs. Car stops would be relegated to just the issuance of traffic violations. No searches needed resulting in arrests due to drugs, guns, and prostitution equals less police encounters resulting in less right’s violations and brutality. Gone would be the militarization of police. With No Knocks almost gone, there would be no need for armored vehicles and SWAT tools on such a large scale.

3rd. Since the poor and uneducated wouldn’t really have an out by selling drugs, prostitution, and gambling, they would be forced to look for work. Sure some will rob but police focus on those crimes and the citizenry able to protect themselves will hamper them. There would be a huge demand to bring jobs back to the US. Jobs that are normally taken by immigrants would be lucrative once again to the poor and uneducated since they would have no choice but to work them. Of course welfare would go up initially but reform and limits to that would reduce it.

Bottom line, the war on drugs, guns, gambling, and prostitution is very lucrative to the government. It keeps them in power. It gives them the need for tools to subjugate us. Just look at Vegas. Illegal gambling isn’t a major problem there. Look at states that have legalized marijuana. Those businesses are very lucrative despite being able to get marijuana cheaper on the street. Look at areas of Vegas and countries that have legalized prostitution. Human trafficking isn’t an issue in those places.

I agree to a certain point. Yes legalizing those crimes will lower THOSE crimes but others will rise. Criminal organizations still make money from murder and kidnappings and other crimes. That nice corner store you go too probably have a gang forcing them to pay weekly dues. Paying ransoms are usually high. If you want to fix this country you have to literally start from the top and the snowball effect kicks in. My supervisor and I were having a great debate and agreed on a few points.
1). NO ONE/SITUATION/THING SHOULD TRUMP THE CONSTITUTION. If a pandemic can suspended your rights what else can? And for a virus you want to close gun shops? But keep liquor store open? No that shouldn’t be allowed. And if it is when that plan backfires someone should be held accountable.
2). ALL GUN LAWS SHOULD BE FEDERAL. NY/CA/MA and other liberal places shouldn’t make laws that obviously infringes or go against the purpose of the firearm. If they want to pass gun control the federal government should do it not the state and all 50 states should abide by it we’re the United States not selected states.
3). COPS SHOULD BE HELD TO A HIGHER STANDARD. We are getting too PC and that doesn’t benefit anyone other than liberals themselves. Everything is becoming political. I personally believe Police should have PT standards and annual fitness test like the Marine corps. There’s WAAAAYYYY to many overweight cops in NY getting high pay but can’t chase criminals or even do their jobs and it could literally be simple, for example 1 mile run in 14 minutes and 10 pushups in 1 minute. Something easy but if can’t achieve then you’ll be placed on desk duty until you pass and only have 6 months if you can’t then you’ll be terminated. Cops are looked up as local hero’s but some only look at it as a 9-5 job and don’t even take it seriously. Also when a cop is getting sued, THAT COP should pay for the lawsuit not the citizens.
4). HOLD PEOPLE WHO LIE/FALSIFY STATEMENTS ACCOUNTABLE. There are too many good officers who who being accused of crimes they did not commit and when found innocent the accuse walk scott free. They should face a minimum of 10 years IMO. And when lying about a crime you should be punished.

OP is not off base. ”The War on Drugs” has resulted in the militarization of the police and the incarceration explosion. Directly responsible for the death of Breanna Taylor, killed in a no-knock midnight raid over a drug package delivery that may have been to a different address.

I can assure you that cartels and dealers aren’t the bulk of the perps resulting from the drug trade. For every “cartel member” there’s probably 10 distributors. For every distributor, 20-50 street dealers. Maybe the street dealers cause some “regular crime”, but for every dealer there’s untold numbers of users and THOSE are the junkies who bust into cars, rob people, burglarize, steal from stores, run car accident insurance scams, etc to get money to buy their chosen poison.

Cats out of the bag with cartels they have so much money from this mistake our country has made. They will make money some other way but not stopping the flow of drug money as soon as we can to them is insane. The money from prohibition has fueled organized crime for a century unfortunately we didn’t learn our lesson from that.

If someone steals for drug money stealing is a real crime. Punish them for that not just the act of possession. Our justice system is overwhelmed our prisons are full and we are all paying for it. There are private prisons making a fortune over it and im sure the cartels have some of our own leaders in their pockets.

I also know a lot of democrats that are hesitant to support republicans over this one issue.

If you use one, under the guise of their original intent, i.e. imminent danger (read a few hours or less) you must still be removed from office and face trial. Guilty until proven innocent. Remember, this is the government we are talking about, not the citizens innocent until proven guilty.

The big one though is police accountability. That needs rewritten. And I do NOT me a cops just snitching on each other and the "bad apples." I mean, if you arrest someone for a crime and they get found not guilty, IMMEDIATELY you should be removed from that position for life. "But that will scare a lot of cops out of making arrests." That's the point. We aren't talking about picking out the wrong screw at the hardware store. You are gambling with lives. If you feel strong enough that the person you are about to arrest is guilty, no issue. But you'd better make damn sure you are right. Similar to the punishment that should befall false rape accusers.

I was talking to a friend about when people are found innocent after spending decades in prison. The people who prosecuted them should be held responsible. If you arnt 100 percent sure you shouldn’t prosecute . The downside to this is if someone is found to be innocent they may bury it.

Plea deals are 100% unjust.

There are only 2 possibilities. A guilty person is getting off light, or an innocent person is getting railroaded. Neither are justice.

It should be illegal for a prosecutor to charge anything other than the the actual crime the evidence supports.

It should also be illegal for them to not charge a crime once there is sufficient evidence to convict.

The state putting their hands, fees, permits, and red tape on it causes the cost to rise immensely. I know big surprise right? There is still a very large black market for weed in those states. Something like 80% of weed is still bought illegally on the black market in states that legalize it. This will not fix everything and gangs will still control this.

I’m not for legalizing weed in NYS but if they do it you will only be able to carry a certain amount and selling it will still be illegal without permits and taxes. Cigarettes are still sold illegally so why would anyone here think the black market for drugs and gangs would disappear?So if it’s truly legal you should be able to have a semi truck load of weed. The government can’t have it both ways.

Legalizing drugs will not stop the illegal sale of them. Do some research. The illegal drug trade for weed is still hot and heavy in those states that legalized it.

I am against the ridiculous taxes on it too. They have defeated the purpose.

There was a thriving black market for alcohol after prohibition ended too, all from the overtaxation. Eventually that mostly went away.

Technically almost nothing is illegal, it's just taxed and permitted.

Maybe half the population have guns and maybe half of that half carry a pistol outside of their home.
