The recoil will be greater and the penetration numbers will be similar if using a hollow point compared to the .40.
If using hard cast that doesn't expand, now you are cooking with gas.

I hate when that argument is used. There are many causes to shoot through barriers. A car mowing down a crowd, a car jacking with your kid still in the back, an active shooter engaging behind store shelves, having to shoot through a barrier in your home, ect.
It will be a target/ competition gun. If I am not in NY next year it will most likely be the 5 inch with a compensator on it.
Sorry I am not a cop and have no need to shoot through barriers.
People are barriers, as in say they have a gun up at you and you are only able to get off that one shot, hits them I the arm or hand and because it's a garbage. 40 doesn' penetrate deep enough now what?

My Escape from New York gift to myself was a S2K in 9. There was a 40 there as well...cheaper...but my BIL talked me out of it and into the 9. Did I screw up? Did he screw me up? Should he be off the Christmas list from now on?

You said you don' shoot through barriers. Part of their body can be a barrier. Petty much anything preventing a direct shot to vital organs is a barrier

No, the 9mm is adequate for self defense and target shooting. The one advantage the 40 had when I was shooting IPSC was the 9mm Was restricted from the major power factor category, which meant you got less points for b and c zone hits.
Not sure you even believe what you just posted. If you are shooting at a person their body is not a barrier it is a target.
Also am not Rambo still won't take an irresponsible shot if I cannot identify the target and what is behind it. You do what you want.

Since you don't shoot through barriers, you patiently wait for him to get out in the open. He finally does but you miss. Now he's behind another barrier. A car or truck. So since you don't shoot through barriers, you disengage and let him make his way around to the driver's seat. He's in the car now still shooting. All you can do is watch because you don't shoot through barriers. He drives away mowing down everyone in his path.

Pretty sure hitting an arm of say someone in a shooting stance shooting at you, that arm if hit and prevents the bullet from going any further it is now a barrier

What about a car door? But say you are in the driver' seat and someone runs up on you, door is still closed? Are you going to open the door first, roll down the window a little maybe?

An arm is not a fence or an obstical it is part of the target. An arm hit may stop the threat, it may not. Are you saying only hits to the vitals stop the threat in every situation? You are really reaching.
But it is an obstical. And no I'm saying vitals and massive blood loss are the only reliable way to stop a threat
if a frog had wings it would not bump its ass when it jumped. Still not getting into a hypothetical shooting scenario here.

Look up the FBI shooting in Miami. An arm became a barrier in that case that stopped a round from reaching vitals. And that was outside of the car. Now shoot through the car door and hit that same arm.
As with every shooting you have to evaluate the effectiveness of your response.

Because you know you have no argument. I'll accept that. Keep your .45 in a 3 inch barrel that further degrades the already slow velocity. It doesn't affect me any.

I've realized people have their beliefs no matter what facts are thrown at them when they've invested time and money on a lie. I get it. It hurts. It's a lot easier to just ignore it.
I realize you aren't going to change. But I can engage you and perhaps someone else reading this may benefit form it.
How many self defense shooting have you been involved in?
Thankfully none but there is this super weird things that humans do. The collect data from all over compile it together and put out what is called information, and with this information people then are able to then plan and train accordingly.
Otherwise with out this people would still believe a 1911 is still noteworthy

That's like saying a cop who has been in 10 shootouts is more highly trained than a Delta or Seal member that's never been in any or has only been in 2.

It's funny how .45 guys downplay the negatives of the cartridge but none of that matters when grabbing a rifle or shotgun. You don't see them downgrading their loads from buckshot to birdshot for barrier penetration.
