Yeah, that big ass break on the 74s keeps it very flat and steady, combined with the higher weight compared to the AR15/M16/M4 series it is a very stable gun in full auto. The 7.62x39 guns aren't too bad though but theywere do bounce around enough that the effectiveness is only around 50 yards or so. Thats based off my limited skill and experience with full auto AKs though. With the FAL I was worried about blowing my toes off, the spread grew that large. Takes a fair bit of skill to keep a 7.62x51 rifle on target with the giggle switch engaged. But perhaps the SCAR is better in this regard? Never shot one personally.
But the FAL and G3 I have shot and they are downright violent in full auto, I can see why FALs were locked into semi auto fire after a while in their service.

Yeah, I have mucho experience with the M16 and M60.

Fellow soldiers thought I was NUTZ because I volunteered for - pretty much DEMANDED the M60.

All because, with its tripod, I could sit on it in the swamps of Cape Cod during my seven years in the National Guard while training. My butt remained high and dry.

I'd do it again, too.

And yes, Asbestos Gloves were standard issue.

Not full sure but I believe that folks have used the M781 nosecones (for the M203) in the 40x53 cartridges. The MK19s have a real niche club, I think maybe 10 civilians mess around with them as posties. There are also OEM sources for the ammo who will deal with you -- if you get an FEL.

Also looks like the Mk19 is now up 450K, so grab your checkbook and get a new mortgage.

It baffles me on some of the design choices made on the M60. It had the pedigree and potential to be the greatest GPMG of its day but stupod oversights, putting the bipod on the barrel as opposed to the gas tube among them or not puttin a handle on the barrel, along with foibles in the design of the internal mechanisms rendered it a flawed gun at best. Too many concessions were made chasing lightweight. But then the Russians pulled the balancing act of in style with their excellent PKM. The M240 is an absoloute pig of a gun but is superior in every way but weight to the M60.

I think I'd rather find a transferable 40mm Bofors.
