There’s a place not far from me my showed me and it’s $2,500/month and trust me I live no where special. My mortgage on a great house is $1,350/month. I’m blown away by what things cost.

The math on that article doesn't line up. The median salary in the USA is around $52000. How Much Does the Average American Make in 2022?

Per the article the most expensive of the four cities lists; Income needed to afford a starter home: $37,071

So in the entire USA there isn't a single city between 37000 and 52000? I call bullshit. Also article is from CNBC, the news of choice for the perpetual, "I'm a victim" lefties.

My areas average income is around $37,000/year and there is no way anyone could afford even a starter house on that salary. A small outdated house down the street from me just listed for $140,000. My taxes are high so your talking $1,400-$1,500/ month for the payment. Of both are making $37,000 that $75,000 minus the 25% taxes removed you’re talking $55-$56,000 and the payment alone is 30+% of your monthly income before car payments, utilities, food, and health care. That’s a good chunk of your income. My wife and I make over twice that salary at around $160,000/year and our mortgage is the same. We’d struggle to make that payment at that income level.

Is that household income or per person income? The article says homeowner. If it’s one person, most of us couldn’t afford a starter home on one salary around here 15 years ago. A starter home has almost always been tough going in the beginning.

My lady and I have been looking at home prices in Tennessee, under $75k. Everything listed in this range is fuckin junk. No bank will mortgage any of them. Most are trashed by former tenants or gutted to be remodeled. Even mobile homes are in the same price range and conditions.
If I based my mobile home on 6acres on their prices I should get $200k for mine, that'll never happen.

I think the “ Yankees “ moving from NY, Boston , etc for the past few years may have driven up prices. It has happened any place my wife and I looked out down south.
