In home/Public carrying/etc - what level of ready are you at?

A DA semi auto with one in pipe and safety off.
1911 cocked and locked with safety on when home in locked house. Safety off in obvious dangerous places (in public, malls, away from home). When at the gun club safety on because there is often a lot of gun handling. When letting someone look at my gun it is unloaded.

I carry Glocks so no safety, one in the chamber. As far as home go, there is a pistol or shotgun loaded and ready to report within 20 feet of my wife and I no matter where we are in the house.

I used to keep my 590A1 under the bed but it has been displaced by my AR lately. I also keep a pistol close at hand as well, but not on my person. I'll typically set it down on a nearby table, counter ect. of the room I'm in. Pistols are kept loaded with a round in the chamber, long guns have loaded magazine, empty chamber.

Walther PPS and M&P Compact always with a round in the chamber. No external safety's but they do have internal ones. The biggest safety though is my brain and keeping my finger off the trigger.

ALWAYS 1 in the pipe of my Glock, so no safety. If I carry my Sig P229: 1 in the pipe, decocked, safety off, and ready to rock.

I carry all day, every day, and always at home. The only times one is not on my person is when I'm driving, in the shower, or in bed, and even then one is always within arms reach.

I have a question related to this. Can't legally carry in NJ - stupid state - but is there any harm in the 1911 being left cocked and locked for an extended period of time, like months on end length of time?

The principle behind any spring metal is that it doesn't weaken when kept in any state (compressed or uncompressed) but rather the spring weakens during the actual changing of the compression state. With that said there is also a term called "spring creep" which is that over time any spring kept under constant tension will ever so slowly lose its springiness. What determines that creep rate is time, temperature, spring material and rate of compression.
Since:

• I don't think you will do it for years on end
• Dont think you are going to store it in direct sunlight
• The spring material is probably higher end since made for a firearm
• The act of lock and cocking your fire arm is not over compressing the spring

In my opinion you shouldn't have any issues.

Just make sure it is kept from prying eyes.

Hard to put into words, but how ready is your carry gun or your other pistols in the home and in public?

My Shield has a safety, but I only use it when I'm transferring between myself and the safe, or carrying around the house. Otherwise, I've got one in the chamber at all times, safety is off when I'm in public. First few times I was safety on, but I quickly got comfortable with it off.

HK has no safety, always one in the chamber.

I keep a 1911 and/or riot shotgun in every major room of the house, locked and loaded Getting past 5 bulldogs and a home alarm would take someone the 2 seconds or less that it takes me to bring my weapon out of the pistol safe. Honestly, I cannot imagine someone getting past those 5 sets of jaws and 400 lbs of just damn meanness. I have seen them go to town before on wild animals and it's not pretty. I have been CCW since 1984 and never had to unholster my weapon. Knock on wood.

If I did live in the United States, I'd probably carry like I practice at the range:

• Or...P238, chambered round, safety on, Desantis pocket holster.

Great! I'm picking up my Taurus PT92 stainless steel pistol later this week. Oh well...that one wasn't on my carry list. I just need a full-sized pistol with a rail on which to mount my Magnetospeed chronometer to speed test my 9mm rounds.

Hooah, heard that last part. Just because I'm ready to do it, doesn't mean I want to. It'd be pretty traumatic for my daughter or wife to know that something like that happened in our house. I'm not gonna claim to be some big badass and say I could sleep easy after shooting someone. Still, I'm ready to do it if need be.

Only reason I can see for not ghosting some of the sh*tstains roaming the streets these days is that being rich on the outside is way more fun than being a cum catcher for some weight lifting negro named Leroy in Rikers Island.

If I didn't live in NY I would carry an Uzi Micro full auto; which is what I carried in GA. Now I am relegated to 1911's. ;-( OTOH, in GA I paid $7K a year in taxes for a house on 60 acres. Now I pay $1K a year for a house on 300+ acres. And I can get in a car and see my mom, dad, and sister in under 3 hours.

Definitely don't wanna become someone's bitch for cleaning up the streets a little, but even if I felt justified like I had to do it, maybe I wouldn't be able to sleep because I was just too hopped up on adrenaline to sleep. I don't think I would be pouring over whether or not it was the right thing to do or if I should or shouldn't have. That part is simple - if you come into my house uninvited, expect problems.

I currently have a gun with a safety that I carry with a round chambered. I will soon switch to a Springfield xd with no safety. I like that it has the grip safety. I feel it's a good go between. I liked the sig p320, but felt the trigger was a bit touchy to have no safety at all on it the Springfield has a good trigger and the trigger safety with the grip safety. I felt like I could not go wrong. The xds has a horrible trigger, but I liked the xd trigger.

I don't have my unrestricted yet and my judge hates guns, so for now I'm trying out holsters and trying to get used to carrying by carrying in the home. For now unloaded. My carry for now is a Glock 23.

You carried a micro uzi? I was looking at your GA guns you posted, I didn't see any micro uzi, I saw a mac 10, mac 11 and a mini uzi with some long barreled uzi's. Where did you conceal it? kind of a bulky machine pistol. Was it something like a cobray m11 shoulder holster? I'd be concerned about ever having to use a class III firearm for a carry weapon. The amount of added red flags and complications it would raise would be staggering I'd imagine. Do you have training with machine pistols at all?
