Incident at rainbow bridge causes all four border crossings to close

Think about it for a moment. A car traveling at a very high rate of speed crashed into a border control checkpoint and instantly burst into flames. You’re in charge. What do you do? Ignore it and continue letting Buffaloads of western NY retards swing through the gate on their way to buy cheap duty-free rotgut liquor, or shut it down for a few minutes until you figure out WTF just happened? Let’s presume it’s nothing, but we need to be sure, so we shut it down and check it out. Nearby areas, bridges, etc should be extra cautious, also. Because if it *IS* a terror attack, and Chief Salty says “Carry on, boys, nothing to see here!” and it was the opening salvo in a coordinated attack, then we’ve already lost the battle. You don’t put your seatbelt on AFTER the crash.

So, just how much government do you shut down for a car accident ?

I can see shutting down that bridge, and that crossing.

But they were shutting stuff down all over western NY.

If some mayor in Michigan wanted the afternoon off, is it reasonable for him to shut city hall too ?

Put every grade school north of the Mason Dixon line on lockdown ?

I have no issues at all with them shutting down the rainbow bridge. They shut down all boarder crossings in WNY, many city halls and courthouses. They shutdown thruways in Canada. They shutdown a city hall 30 miles away in Lackawanna because of this.
They increased security at the Buffalo airport as well, I think this was a good idea as well.

What I’m saying is that Salty posted that it was a car full of explosives trying to enter the USA. It was the day before a national holiday. If it *WAS* a terror attack, wouldn’t you expect other locations similar to the one just set ablaze to be possible/probable targets? I’m not saying whether I do/do not agree with closing down anything, but I’m also not surprised, nor bitching about it either way, shut down or business as usual. But you can’t be shocked that in 2023 anyone will lock something down at the slightest change in the wind, either. Especially when an international border, death, destruction and an explosion are involved. If you’re safe, open it back up. If you’re under attack then the other bridges were shut down, as well as other likely targets. It’s like a concealed weapon: you don’t carry because you’re looking to randomly shoot someone; you carry because of someone who randomly tries to shoot you. All I’m saying is that I wasn’t surprised that so much stuff got shut down, but I’m surprised that others think it was an over-reaction. I thought this place liked secure borders.

The initial fears of a deliberate attack had merit. An ounce of prevention is definitely worth a pound of cure. It was quickly determined no ill intent, despite widespread sky is falling rhetoric. Things quickly returned to normal. I don't see anytbing to be alarmed about here.

I'm sure some people still remember 9/11. Tons of shit closed once it became obvious it was a terrorist attack. Even the schools (oddly, except for the one GWB was at). So they erred on the side of caution. Hell, if I'm the one to make the call on closing stuff, I'll err on the side of caution too because it could be my ass if it turns sideways. Let's not forget this happened the day before Thanksgiving and for some was probably a convenient excuse to close up early. Selfish fuckery for sure, but not nefarious.

If this had happened almost anywhere else it would just end up being a part in those crash compilation YT videos, but because it happened at our only secure border, it got amped up.

Comparing this to 9/11 is completely insane and no parallel whatsoever.
I get closing the bridge where the incident occurred and beefing up security at high risk areas for sure. There has never been a terrorist attack at many of the places they closed or the parallel to them. Courthouses and city halls aren’t high on terrorists lists. The Canadian boarder isn’t either.
I think your assessment of them wanting to go home early because it was a holiday is right and I will accept that answer.
