Yep. That's why people say police are "bootlickers" .Their oath means nothing. If you allow governors, mayors, and state legislatures to create laws that oppose "Constitutional Rights" then what's the point of any law? Or any oath? All are meaningless. So, if you're a police officer and arrest people for excising their rights as stated in the Constitution, then you're breaking our laws, violating our rights, and the people will not stand with you. Now I'm sure there are police officers who stay quite and have made a decisions to not enforce illegal state laws. But they won't come forward about it because they're afraid of being fired. But, we can't depend on that, and so what you have are civilians that see police as the enemy. Since this is a firearm forum, I'm sure not many here like the idea of being told they can't carry a firearm simply because the police will not give you a carry permit. And I'm sure there are those here that are ticked off about the whole AR15 thing as well. You can't ask people to be understanding about violation of our rights and that we should put the police on a pedestal as they continue to violate our rights. It's not a reasonable request. I'll take it a step further. The military also takes an oath and I haven't seen anyone enlisted in the military say a thing about violation of 2A. I've seen retired military come forward. But not one general, sergeant, captain, battalion come forward and just make a public statement of how the AR 15 is not an assault weapon. Nor have I seen a press conference from any military stating that the violation of 2A laws in states across America is unconstitutional. What about the oath they take? They stand on the sidelines and say nothing. So, I can see why many don't have any confidence in our country. And this has been the case for decades.

As with the current events as of late, there has been many conversations here at work. Nearly all of us have just echoed each other, we have all basically said that we do not understand how or why none of his fellow officers intervened in this murder.
When I was a Soldier, we used to check each all regularly, not always, but quite often. In my current job, we are checking each other also, on a regular and consistent basis. Too much ego and arrogance gets in the way.
I still blame most of the woes of many different communities on those that live in these communities. Act like normal Americans, act like normal humans and the police have zero reason to come to you.
Not all that hard to act the part of a decent human being.
Matter of fact, I just pissed off a bunch of coworkers in the past half hour. Guys with more time then me talking all kinds of shit about this, that and the other; I listened for a while, then I jumped in and went off them about their unfounded arrogance. Just hearing some of their shit was beyond my patience level.

6 months ago employers couldn't find enough employees to fill the same positions you've mentioned several times, if jobs were the silver bullet this bullshit wouldn't be happening.
My guess is fear of retaliation by fellow officers or superiors. From what I read he was the superior officer at the scene. It's also possible they simply didn't care what happened to him.
It's nice to hear that you and some of your coworkers agree that someone should've stepped in and stopped it but obviously not all of you think alike and that's why this is going on. I still can't believe they did nothing knowing they were being recorded.
Why would they?
You can murder someone in broad daylight in front of the cameras and people will still defend you.

It doesn't matter what they do, it won't be covered fairly by the media.
There are millions of cops in this country, it's statisticly impossible to make sure they are all good.
The best you can do is root out the bad ones as you identify them, and reduce the number you allow in.
The media will latch onto the inevitable incidents and blow them out of proportion and them sit silent when the system works and eliminates them.
This recent incident is proof positive. The system worked as well as can be expected, guilty party and the enablers have been fired and are being criminally charged. What more do they want ?
Now, I am not saying there aren't a lot of things that need to be fixed as far as accountability goes, I just don't think this incident is an example of it.

Officers do do it I have seen it regularly in my inter workings with PD over the years. Most of the time it’s just subtle comments which most of the time do the trick. I have also witnessed officers aggressively remove hot headed hot shots from scenes. Those don’t make for cool craftily edited you tube videos though. She's not wrong about the cultural issue. I remember many years ago when I learned that black kids that did well in school were getting assaulted because good grades were associated with being white. I absolutely could not believe it but it was true. That attitude is so counter productive it's almost impossible to believe that any group could actually embrace it.
Still true in many places today. I have heard some black youngsters tell me that school is for white people. They will do fine just hustling.

So here's a fact: There is a growing number of young men in particular (I am not virtue signalling, but women just have their shit together way more than males do these days; less crime, less failing out of school, less stupid shit in general) who are fucking bums. They may have a high school diploma, maybe they don't, but they hang around at home well into their 20's doing nothing more than video games, drinking, "hanging out".
This kind of behavior was impossible a century ago unless you were a lazy rich kid. it's possible now because we have such a surplus of resources, money, social coverage that it's now possible and in some circles acceptable for a male of 22 to be an absolute worthless shit, hanging around at home with no future and nobody to hold him accountable. His greatest accomplishment nutting in some girl he met the night before while drunk. The economy has not failed these young men. Their immediate social group and culture has.
And btw when these guys inevitably end up in jail I do not have a single tear for them. Nor do I accept any responsibility for it whatsoever.

Right. He wouldn’t have been arrested. That’s correct but a straw man argument. A response by me as straw man would be that had the establishment not accepted checks to prevent crimes, he wouldn’t have written a bad check to it. I would never argue that because it’s BS.
Yes. Actions have consequences. But those consequences aren’t infinite. I could be detained for choosing to not wear a mask in a government building knowing that there may be consequences but those consequences shouldn’t be deadly force by gunshot if I was to be physically trespassed and finally cuffed but still resisting by being squirmy.
