Hopefully I can put all my thoughts of this straight and understandable...
I am a news junkie. I watch the news all of the time. Fox, CNN, MSNBC, Twitter, here, odd ball news outlets; I am an equal opportunity kind of news junkie.
Since these riots and I guess we can call them protests, I have watched a lot of news.
There are many common threads from many, if not most of the news outlets; Police are to blame and these departments and officers need to change.
I disagree. Completely disagree. This is not because of what I do for a living. This is coming from me, just a plain Joe kind of guy.
I listen to some of these (protesters) saying that all of this is the fault of the Police. These people are saying that the Police need to completely change how and what they do. Is this true? Should they change everything they do? Should they change most of what they do?
I would like to back up time a bit. Years ago I was a Military Police officer and a Patrol Supervisor. We Policed our own. We policed Soldiers. Did not matter what the color of a Soldiers skin was, policing was done pretty damn fairly. I think much of the difference was the people that we served. The Army community. We did not have the kinds of issues within that community that we see in the everyday public community that we have in America.
I see many of our issues, the bad issues that we see within communities and neighborhoods, more of a people issue than a Police issue. I see these protesters saying that the police need to take responsibility, I do not necessarily disagree, I wish all cops took ownership of what they do. But I see this as more of people need to start taking a hell of a lot more responsibility for their actions and their behaviors. Why are the Police in some areas more than others? Because they want to be there? Nope. It is because they NEED to be there. When does policing become the fault of the people of an area?
Every now and then, a cop will drive down my road. Maybe once or twice per day and once during the night. Not too far from me is a housing project, the police are there all of time; wanna know why? Because they need to be. Is this the police departments fault? No, not by a long shot. It is because many of the people that live in this poorer area are not behaving the way they should be in a civilized society. More arrests are made in one or two of these housing areas than in the rest of my entire town. This is a problem. When do these people start to take responsibility for their actions and their behaviors?
Last but not least, when do the Political Elite take responsibility for what they do? It is the elected class that make and pass the laws that they expect the Police to enforce. I am not talking about oath breaking and constitutional rulings. This is not what this rant and these questions are about. That is for another day.
The police do not pass and enact laws. Cops do not make the laws. That is done solely by those people that you and I vote into office. When does this become their fault? A cop arrests for something as simple as weed, that is his job. His job is to arrest those in violation of the laws passed by the elite.
Why do so many think it is only the Police that need to change? My rant is nearly over....
If the American people really want the Police to change, all I can say is I hope each and every police officer in America stands down. Do the absolute least needed to keep your job. Do not actively police. Do not pull drivers over. Stop all fishing. Stop all traffic stops. patrol with eyes barely open.
