Never mind. I went back and re-read the scoring rules twice. ( I said I was dense some times) I got it now. It's all good.
What, no raincoat and galoshes???I don't know if I can get to the range this month. Its been heavy rain all week, and its supposed to continue till next weekend!
Anyone going shooting today?
Working on it now. Just finished the rifle match, starting the pistol match now.No rain only wind, where is everybody?
X ring is just 10/1x.Working on it now. Just finished the rifle match, starting the pistol match now.
Question, How is the X ring scored? Is it 11 points? Also, beyond the "shoot till you get 5 hits" I dont fully grasp the pistol match rules. I just a pic of what get and see how it turns out.
Nice shooting, pretty rifle. @nortatoga if you intend on entering the targets in post 130 please mark your post "official entry"
Well people may post targets but not have them count, like last month. This way I can differentiate between BS posts and official entry posts.OK so many rules!! LOL!!!
X ring is just 10/1x.
You have to shoot 5 shots, you have to get three in the target area. If you don't have three in the target area (circle and the T) you have to continue shooting until you have 3 in the target area. Penalties apply for every shot over 5.
If you cut the line it counts as the higher number. Also, for the 100 irons match. Was it that clean, non edge hit were also an "x" or was it just within a certain range, like the 9 or 10 rings?
I posted cold shot pistol targets for this challenge because I figured it was somewhat closer to a SD situation.@Podmonkey I get 152/1X and 35/4X. Very nice shooting!
You and @nortatoga are going to make me practice instead of shooting one set of targets and calling it good. LMAO
.
Well it isn't against the rules to shoot them more than once.I posted cold shot pistol targets for this challenge because I figured it was somewhat closer to a SD situation.
I knew that. It was just me challenging myself.Well it isn't against the rules to shoot them more than once.
Yeah, I do the same. Mainly because I usually am doing something else with my range sessions and the challenge is an afterthought.I knew that. It was just me challenging myself.
You do realize I consider you my bitter rival now right?Nice shooting @Podmonkey !
You should Always be practicing as much as necessary for maximum proficiency. Especially with your CCW. Don't forget before you're finished to shoot a couple of mags with your off hand.Edited previous post for official entry.
Observations on this months match.:
Perhaps some of you have picked up on this but I am a very competitive person, I shoot these targets until I get ones I think are the absolute best I can do. What you don't see is the mountain of incompetence on the way to what I post. On the pistol portion I shoot at the raccoon 50 times once before I hit the little circle 3 times!
I also did some incidental experimentation during the Rifle match and learned some interesting things. I shot both offbthe bench unsupported and prone and found I was much more accurate when prone. That's not too suprising given my background but what is was that I also used the red dot for a few targets to see if I could do any better. I could not, I was a bit more consistent using the iron sights. I suppose this is befitting since I learned proper marksmanship on an M16A2, prone with iron sights.
Also I have gained substantial confidence with my Shield. Prior to this I figured the best I could do was to scatter shots over a torso sized area out to 10 yards but I have learned I can be accurate with my CCW.
Usually I will run a couple mags through the Shield and then switch over to the more entertaining PPQ but during the match I shoot 400 rounds through the S&W. Its amazing what a little pratice can accomplish.
This will be my last match for a while, I will be spending the next two hometimes in NY and WI visiting family. I'll pick it up again in Septemeber.
You do realize I consider you my bitter rival now right?
Very true. I did some weak hand shooting with the Shield. It wasn't pretty. I think the main thing that has had me favoring The PPQ at the range is all the extra magazine loading the Shield requires. I didn't even touch the PPQ this time out though. After I got done with the pistol match I did still have some 9mm left but it was late, I was exhausted and also completely famished! You should Always be practicing as much as necessary for maximum proficiency. Especially with your CCW. Don't forget before you're finished to shoot a couple of mags with your off hand.
