Well. The 30 round mag thing for AKs is factually correct since it needs leverage to rock in and lock. A longer mag gives you more leverage than a short one. That's not debatable. Perhaps whoever told you that has little itty bitty girly hands and or has trouble lifting the weight difference between a 10 round mag and a thirty round mag.
@Will555, I wondered this last night- when are you going to get an Ace? I'm a biased broken record I know, but an AK connoisseur such as yourself should just get one. The Ace will outshoot anything else in the Kalashnikov world. The prices have even remained consistent. Relatively.

ACE’s are nice no doubt. I’m not gonna say they’re not. But my AK is pretty fuckin’ dope! lol That red dot on the corner that I added to the picture was my point of aim. Aiming at the corner makes for a very finite target and helps zeroing. This was also my first 5 round group after completely disassembling, soaking in acetone numerous times, hitting parts with a torch numerous times, sandblasting, spraying all the parts, and then baking them in an oven, curing and reassembling…without re-zeroing. After all that and that’s only how far off it was…I’ll take it. A few minor adjustments and it was dead on again.
That's pretty good alright. Still think you should get an Ace. My 308 shoots pretty well, but I can't get groups like yours with any gun. I'll try to dig up that target pic where I printed 5 groups of 5, each a different brand/type. I remember it really liked the Hornady Match 168gr. It also likes many 150gr loads such as American Eagle and Saltech. It surprisingly shoots Aguila 150gr really well.Bring it!

Yeah, my group with was some Wolf steel cased crap. lol
The 7.62x39 Ace is said to do really well with Russian steel case also.

Target represents the Inner 50% of a standard piece of printer paper (I couldn't figure out how to get the image to fill the sheet) @ 50 yards, unsupported from the bench. I had a 3.5 ACOG on it at the time. Ammunition was that Malaysian surplus 7.62x51 that came in a few years ago. I don't think that's to shabby for the speed I was going at.

Not too bad, pretty decent. If I ran a magnified optic I would have even tighter groups. But I’m running the Eotech EXPS by itself.

Today he has a $35,000+ semi auto modern rifle, who knows how many transferable machine guns, connections to get into the Hk gray room on multiple occasions, travels to Finland yearly just to shoot a weekend match, started his own publishing company who has now what 3? 4? Books all of which they can't keep in stock and he is thinking of doing a 2nd run reprint of his actual book he did?
That's legit amazing especially since not long ago he was just working as a small engine repair mechanic.

Really? I'd rather spend that amount on a 4x4 Pickup. Like a nice example of an F150 with the 5.0.
But even if he didn't, even with a connection.. he'd still probably dropped 10s of thousands of dollars on that rifle
Difference is, Ian is in love with French rifles and there are like maybe 20 FAMAS in the country (civilian legal semi autos)
