I have some guns I've kept bone ass stock. I'm actually in the middle of making one that will be bone ass stock.
I have so far been able to keep my carry pistol bone stock. I wanted to keep my Colt 6920 stock, but have swapted out the m4 handguards for an MI quad rail and added a weapon light. I also installed a LaRue trigger but only because they had a recall on theirs. Part of me wants to buy an off the shelf AR and keep it as bought.
My EDC is as well.
I have an AR I built that is a basic M4 like you'd get off the shelf, but as basic as it is, it is still a Frankenstein AR and not a production gun.
I understand. That is being practical. Being practical is something I admire and aspire to be, which is the idea behind this thread. It just seems, in this consumer age, that you buy the main product and then to keep that consumer high going, have to subsequenty buy upgrades and accessories for the initial item.
Most of my rifles have sights (scopes) added. I do have quite a few handguns, rifles and shotguns which are factory stock.
I suppose that is one way to look at it. I tend to carry a gun of my own making. Wonder how they will argue that in court?
That's usually what I end up doing. I may not always change parts but I usually end up at least looking at accessories. Never just buy a gun and leave it how it is really. Idk, I guess there are always the essentials, like more mags a sling/holster and optics for some, I guess those shouldn't really count.

But they can say or do anything they want, if it's in a criminal case, a legit defense would tear that apart and make the DA appear as foolish as a child!
A firearm "IS" designed to do what it does... But your worry would also attest to the fact that you practiced and went to the range too many times and therefore have become a killing machine! Or that you actually loaded your firearm before the need arises constitutes a premeditated action that you were going to use your firearm ...
Same goes for Skull grips, or HOT loads...
All BS garbage and certainly nothing to worry about IMO!
I changed minor things... Sights that didn't really work well on my SIG were replaced by them as it didn't match POA to POI... My old Glock has a Match grade barrel in it. My little SIG has a modified mag to allow 8 instead of 7...
Oh my... If a DA should have a field day with me heaven forbid I had to use one of my firearms, but I was there arguing the fact after the encounter... I would be glad and happy and not worried a split second about what any snowflake DA thought!

Are bbls on that 16ga not interchangable? I mean, are there not other model 12 16ga bbls with different chokes you could install? That model 12 is a sweet gun and had it been a 12ga I would have kept it.
It is a takedown, the barrel/magazine tube comes off as a complete assembly.
