Besides the the Manix which is already under consideration and the Military cause its too similar to the Paramilitary I have, what else does everyone like for a Spyderco in the above 3.5" realm for less than $250?

See I just ordered a nice Mini Grip, Now I want a big folder from Spyderco to round out the EDC collection.
What I should have done is go big with the Benchmade 710 McHenry and gone little with the Spyderco Techno. But I've been wanting a Mini Grip for some time.

two thumbs up for the Spyderco with Wave feature, quicker than any automatic knife.
I can't stand wave opening. I don't want the blade coming out until I need it out.
I use knives as tools, not weapons.

I have both the paramilitary and military. The locking system and blade length of the military are superior in my opinion. If you want the best large spyderco look no further.

On the other hand, when I pull my knife out...I intend to use it, either as a tool or weapon, so it being open is a plus?
I even put a homemade wave on my old Pacific Salt (lost to Lake George
). Zip tie and super glue = awesome. 
A knife, especially a folder can be used as a tool in many ways other than for cutting purposes. If a folder, I want control, I'll decide when and how to present my blade, or edge, depending on purpose ; )
That said, I've never went in to purchasing any tool, limiting myself to brand or price... I want the best I can get for the task at hand. Spyderco is probably the best "mass production" product, but there's certainly better. And your price entry point is only skimming the bottom of what I consider serious contenders that I'd carry at all. Don't get me wrong, but you're paying 20-30% above what it's worth because the name.

I like Sydercos and Benchmades, Kershaw makes the best budget knives and I have a few of those too. Cold Steels, I think, are gimmicky and too heavy, ditto for Zero Tolerance. Just my opinion. $200 is about the limit of what I'm comfortable carrying and using, $250 is the upper hard limit. If I spend more than that it'll be on one of Chris Reeve's masterpieces.

the Tenacious is affordable and durable knife. It's a little heavier than the other spydercos that I've carried over the years, but it can take a beatin.

I've had my eye on the Para 2 (dig camo with black blade) the Para 3, and that sexy Yojimbo. They're all a little more than I'm use to spending on my blades, but I may just treat myself for when I have to put on a suit. It'll be nice to have a "shelf queen" for those days. If any of yas own any of them, I'd love to know what you think of them.
The Para 2 is undoubtedly one of the finest EDC blades you can own. Very high attention to little details like milled out liners, liners that are nested flush inside the scales reducing the width a little and even minor details like the the openings of the hollow standoff tubes being chamfered. Just outstanding focus and elegance of design without being even remotely gaudy or gimmicky. The full flat ground blade has excellent shape and superb slicing abilty. The finely tapered, needle sharp tip pierces material with effortless ease and is stronger than it looks. The redesigned handle has absolutely outstanding ergonomics and the compression lock is an excellent, very strong, easy and comfortable to use and fun to play with lock. Buy this knife! Even at today's elevated price it's worth it! I freakin' love mine x10! Between it and my 940 Osbourne I think I have the best two EDC knives available. I must say though that for "fancy" gentleman carry the Osbourne is better. The Para 2 is bigger in the pocket and very "scary tactical" looking, particularly in the black with digicam dress.

Redundancy, the Spyderco and Osbourne are similar in size. I haven't actually received the Mini Grip yet, I custom ordered it from Benchmade's pick n' mix feature. I got one with a satin 20CV blade with desert tan, horizontally sculpted G10 scales. I ordered way back on the 25th but the order is still "processing". I better call them, I'll be home in less than two weeks.
To each their own, I really liked my Kershaw Skyline. I wish I hadn't lost it. For me that's the problem with inexpensive knives, I don't think about em as much. You can be damn sure I always know where my Osbourne is though! And I use the hell out of my Osbourne too, to the point of abuse even, takes it in stride. I'm going to do a thread on it in fact, showing the wear and that it's okay to carry a $170 knife.
Too bad this was just a sprint run, I like it!
I think I have decided. The Spyderco Manix 2 XL will fit my niche nicely. Now the only question is....

I hate coated blades.
I have no problem with them if its done well. The coating on my Para 2 seems indestructible. Had it for years and it still looks great! For carbon steel blades I prefer a coating to help with corrosion.
I prefer H1 steel for that.
1095 is fine with me.

No need for H1 unless you live/work fulltime on the ocean. Too much sacrifice in edge retention with H1.
I just bought a second Kershaw Blur with the glass breaker tip. For a 3.5" blade folder it checks all the boxes and the first has held up well.
$65, made in USA, easy to sharpen, big grip, only 4 ounces, etc.
I've had several Benchmades, Osbourne, ZT, Emerson and they were either too this or that, or silly expensive. I have a couple Ontario and Kbar fixed blades in the bag too.
