I have seen those. Kind of pricey. Great idea though, I go to a lot of estate sales in the area, always looking for these used.
Bear in mind 14 gallons of gas weighs about 112 pounds.

An extra gallon of straight up unscented bleach is another economical water purification method.
I'm going to look into this conversion kit a bit more. I believe the kit for my Briggs and Stratton generator does not require frame modification and will just bolt on. This would be the best case solution. Unlimited gas supply that never goes bad and nothing to lug around.

I do also have all this, all purchased just before people suddenly decided COVID 19 was actually a thing to go insane about. Mostly Tuna pouches, soup, canned chicken chunks and SPAM. A lot of SPAM. I actually don't mid SPAM. A Grilled SPAM n' cheese is actually pretty yummy in my book.
Its meat and it lasts fucking forever. If you were starving it would taste like ambrosia. I also have some corned beef in there. I enjoy corned beef as well.
Every prepper kit should have one large metal pot with all metal lid. Cooking, water boiling purification, storage, transport, vermin proof, toilet flushing....... I got mine at a garage sale. Thrift stores have old canning pots too. Store your rice in it.
I don't know if the smell of creeping death all over the resulting items would be good for moral though.Estate sales are a prepping Paradise!
I have one of those, it was given to me and I still have never used it. I have a few metal gas cans made by International Harvester that hold 7 gal. Great for storage, not so great when lifting.@GOPerfect
Something like this would allow you to just empty it into your car every 6 months to get rid of it and replenish with fresh gas. These are 14 gallon.

Bleach goes bad after awhile, I believe about a year but not sure. It won't kill you it just loses it's effectiveness.
Average guy could probably go months on a thousand calories/day. Wouldn't be fun, but could be doneIts not as much as it looks like, each bucket has 12 pouches, each pouch is considered two servings. For a loner such as myself I would consume 2 pouches per day so rougly 1 week per bucket.
That is consdrably less than the recommended daily calorie intake but I have a considerable personal.........*ahem* "surplus" to draw on besides.
I also believe that when times call for it the human body can endure far more on far less than many would think. I actually know this for a fact from personal experience.
When I went on my diet and lost 80lbs I made sure to eat 1,200 calories or less daily. I didn't feel hungry all day. I ate a lot of protein which is very filling.Average guy could probably go months on a thousand calories/day. Wouldn't be fun, but could be done
Damn that is a ton of gas. I guess you must be cycling it regularly through your car?Gas stores horribly. I have about 30, 5 gallon cans that I keep filled all of the time. Right now, only using stabilizer. I have a bunch of that in storage as well. I keep researching longer term storage of gas.
Shit getting a little out of control on this end. I'm on day four of my pre-diet come to Jesus, which involves just about 1000 calories/day of protein drinks as self-flagellation. Then back on real food tomorrow. Of all the various things I've done over the years I discovered a couple years ago that skipping breakfast, having a very modest lunch, then a perfectly decent size dinner was the best for my sanity and it worked well on the weight. When I went on my diet and lost 80lbs I made sure to eat 1,200 calories or less daily. The kit I'm looking at would allow NG and LP and retain the. ability to use gasoline.I have one of those, it was given to me and I still have never used it. I have a few metal gas cans made by International Harvester that hold 7 gal. Great for storage, not so great when lifting.
For real long term on your gen set, get a LP conversion NOT NG! LP lasts forever and is easy to store and move around without spilling. I have probably 8-10 BBQ sized tanks and never bought a one! Picked up most of them off the street curbside on trash day. Trash co. won't take them so I will, if in date I get the refilled (much cheaper than exchange) if out of date then exchange.
When exchanging tanks be aware that you not only pat a higher price but you also don't get a completely full tank! I forget how much they short you but it's out there on the net.
illegalI used to store rice, beans, and pasta but stopped since you need to monitor how old they are and the time it takes to cook them. You would also need to cook them outside and call attention to yourself if you have nearby neighbors. I now mostly focus only on the Mountain House #10 cans. Nothing else for food. That way when desperate and I have to open them, all I have to do is boil water to eat. No cooking smell. For water I bought a few filters from Amazon to purify water from my local stream.
Ammo is a few thousand rounds for my pistols. The pistol will be my primary defensive weapon. I have been thinking of getting one of those Glock carbine conversions like this below. Along with a .22LR slide. That way, I can consolidate one platform for multiple uses with just the change of a slide and a quick insert into this chassis all carried in a backpack.
I know. However not illegal by itself with nothing inserted to be stored in a backpack at home now. In SHTF, it will not matter if a pistol is inserted.illegal
You could have a point. Good luck getting someone to sell you one though.I know. However not illegal by itself with nothing inserted to be stored in a backpack at home now. In SHTF, it will not matter if a pistol is inserted.
I downloaded a calorie counter app. I was then able to scan UPC codes for an exact assement of what I was about to eat. Now that I think about it itbwas 1,800 calories, not 1,200 per day, I would eat three 400 calorie or so meals and maybe a snack.Shit getting a little out of control on this end. You can buy them online. Ship them to anywhere outside the state if they won't ship to NY.You could have a point. Good luck getting someone to sell you one though.
Been there and done thatOh well, if it happens it happens. I move around so much It probably won't matter.
I did have MREs and a bunch more Mountain House in the past but I have since consumed them during periods of unemployment. I think that unemployment is a perfectly valid use for emergency food.
Calorie counting with an app definitely works. I just find eventually I get tired of it.I downloaded a calorie counter app. I was then able to scan UPC codes for an exact assement of what I was about to eat. You can have a supring variety of things to eat in that limit. I could have a small McDonald's cheeseburger meal and still make my 1,800 limit.
A 6" sub from subway was also easy to work in.
Or I could even work in an entire Subway Club with low fat mayo if I watched what I had for dinner. For breakfast I would have either an instant oatmeal cup or an egg, scarmbled and microwaved in a cup.
If I was hungry and had no calories left I would eat a pickle or two which have virtually no calories and I really like pickels as well. I ate as little sugar as possible, no regular soda, juices or sweetened teas.
With close attention paid to what you are eatind and by making wise calorie decisions you can have a surprisingly satisfying daily diet. I was able to accept all this while OTR trucking and eating out in the Truck stops. Soup and Salad bars were another favorite of mine, you can eat salad till you about barf and not have consumed that many calories, provided you go a little light on the dressing.
I also ate a lot of fish which is also a very easy thing on the calorie limit. For example my favorite dinner if I was at a truck stop with a Dennys was their Tilapia Ranchero dinner with red potatoes and broccoli on the side. The whole meal (sans garlic bread) was 420 calories. So I could have oatmeal or an egg for breakast, a 12" Subway Club for lunch and a Tilapia Ranchero dinner and still have room for a small snack and come in just under my 1,800 calorie limit. A satisfying amount of mealing really.
It certainly requires discipline. I stuck with it for 6 months. Then along came the holidays and I fell off the wagon. Hard.Calorie counting with an app definitely works. I just find eventually I get tired of it.
Invariably when I diet I have amazing success and then just stop making it such a focus of my life, kind of forget about it, and then back to weight gain. Fun!
I never quite understood the use of fero rods to start fire, when Bic lighters or a good butane lighter are so much more efficient and economical, transportable, and useful. A 6 pack or two of Bic’s will last you forever. Or if your feeling old school a nice Zippo with a few spare wicks, flints and a couple bottles of fuel.Yeah, I have a shit ton of matches for household use but I should get some fero rods and starter stuff like alcohol cloth. I need to get some water filtration gear too. There is a small stream within walking distance. Its fast flowing so hopefully safe to drink after filtered.
