Perhaps, but they are buddies so I don't really know that anything other than it being called an accident would come of it. Plus, were it ever traced back to us it wouldn't be good. What might be better is to hack one of their missiles and have it land in Pyongyang, like right on the presidential palace or something. Completely humiliating them. You know what this reminds me of? It reminds me of watching a parent with a misbehaved kid at a restaurant and the kid's behavior is shit and the parent just tries to negotiate with them and baby talk to them while the kid is running around acting like a total asshole. And who's fault is that? The parent because good parents don't let kids get like that and when the kid tries it they get corrected immediately and effectively so that they turn into a decent kid. The international community has always babied north korea and allowed it to ruin everybody else's meal. And now instead of a misbehaved five year old we have a misbehaved teenager who has stolen daddy's gun and is about to get into some serious trouble. And when it happens we'll interview the parents and they'll say he was always just so hard to deal with and we'll know it was partly their fault.

All this does is challenge us power in the Pacific. It gives them the ability to say no to the US. It threatens us ships with power to sink them. It could never do that before.

I am really interested to see if there are any new military recalls or deployments....
I think the US may give one last chance, one final warning. If NK blows is off and tells Trump to take a hike (which they probably would)....I think at that point the US either needs to shit or get off the pot. If the US suddenly stood talking I think at that point it's likely we will pre emptively and decisively incapacitate NK leadership, nuclear infrastructure and delivery capability.
Just remember....NK can do this now. Tonight if they wanted with various means (either weaponize satellites, or missiles launched from cargo ships....

Both great Generals but didn't have the calling. Jim Webb was in close combat and wounded. Played hot potato with grenades if I remember correctly. Saved other Marines lives. That's Bad Ass. He's also a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. Not a "Big City" democrat.

There comes a time when we have to conclude that the US is not, after all, going to do what it could to prevent NK. If it's unwilling to use military force, all it has is talk. And that's all we've seen. Decades of it. Washington can't be that stupid to think that their sanctions work, or maybe just the previous presidents have been happy to kick the can (all three of them). But the can can't be kicked anymore if we really want to stop NK having nuclear ICBMs.

We had the momentum to go after the real "axis of evil" (Iran & North Korea) after 9/11. But no ooooooooooooo, Dubya and his ilk felt that finishing what daddy started was more important. Low and behold, there were no wmd's in Iraq. Where as with Iran and NK, there has been positive and overwhelming evidence.

I don't see how using nukes preemptively would help our cause when it comes to other countries support for our actions. I understand there are low yield small tactical nukes, not meant to kill cities, but you know what the press would turn it into. Just the words "nuclear weapons used" would be enough to cause hysteria. Considering Trump has enough problems at home with the media and the left; just going to war with NK would throw everything into bozo mode, let alone using nuclear weapons. They already think he's crazy and cant be trusted with the codes. It sucks because Trump seems like the one who has the balls to do what needs to be done, but with the tumultuous state of things politically here at home, I worry.

I think the regime should be flattened, but I wouldn't support nukes in achieving that. Short of either a nuclear response or as a preemptive attack to stop a nuclear attack when the evidence is overwhelming that such an attack is forthcoming, the US would be stupid to use nukes here. And, I'm sure every general (except the one in that article) knows it. Will never happen.
Moreover, totally not necessary. At this exact instant in time NK cannot hurt the US at all beyond artillery attacks across the DMZ aimed at entrenched US troops. That's it. And if their country came under heavy aerial attack there's no way they could keep running a nuclear program from bunkers underground as their country's infrastructure is taken out.

How much commerce does China do with USA versus NK? Which has a more positive impact on the Chinese economy? If USA told China they would ban all commerce and default on the $1+ trillion of USA debt that China is carrying, what would the impact be for them? Maybe that's the deal - invade NK and fix that crap; or we stop commerce with you. They might not like being pushed into anything; but after a year or two they might suck it up and head right into NK.
As near as I can tell, Google says we do $578 billion in total trade with China as of 2016. Google also says they hold $1.12 trillion of USA debt. Wiki is saying that China and NK do only $3.6B a year in trade with each other.
Based on those numbers, it almost seems like China betraying NK is a no-brainer.

Insightful but problematic IMO. Think about the issues that would occur here in the good ol' USA. Our manufacturing has long been shipped overseas. Primarily to China. Doubtful of that? Try going shopping for everyday things. Things you need, things you want, and things you don't need or want. See how many things you'll no longer be able to buy without Chinese imports.
I am not saying this is good by any stretch of the imagination. However, the reality of it is that it would take years and possibly a decade to get domestic manufacturing up to running speed again. And when it is up and running the cost of production will cause incredible inflation for the prices we've been accustomed to paying.
I like your idea for the economic sanctions against China but we'd need to be prepared as a country to be able to withstand the repercussions.

I know it's all about production; but I was thinking other countries would pick up where China left off. Taiwan and Japan can boost; India has over a billion people and would welcome the extra commerce, places like Greece are desperate to get more GDP so they can fix their economy, and parts of Africa would jump in and pick up the slack. But yeah - with only 325 million people in USA we cannot absorb that hit overnight. Think of the big picture though - Earth has a gross GDP of 75 trillion. Cutting 1 trillion from China and letting the other 241 countries jump at the opportunity won't be a horrible hit for a long period.
I think politicians nowadays just don't have balls like Teddy, Ike, JFK, Lincoln, Washington, Bush etc. Almost every great president in our 250 year history has military experience and balls the size of grapefruits. Trump is in way over his head and finding out the hard way this country isn't just an oversized construction company like he's used to. He needs to let the Pentagon advise him on this foreign stuff. USA isn't just one big business deal.

Doubling the tariff is the exact same thing. Once Chinese prices are high, other countries will undercut and compete for the business. The ban is just more "in your face" even if the result is the same. I kind of like the "I don't take shit" approach because it sends a more aggressive message. USSR had huge manufacturing capability - we could say "fuck you" to China, and sit down with Putin and architect a new world order without China in the world mix. I'd rather boost Russia and relegate China to the status of "also-rans".
