Yes. But it played to the advantage of the HFC members. They played him and his lust like a fiddle as well as the status quo desires of the rest of the house. And both parties were too invested in being partisan to cross over to stop it.
The concessions that were made should have been a given with the changing of the guard to overturn the damage Pelosi has done.
I can't think of better proof of McCarthy being a RINO and the reality of the Uniparty.
This is the silver lining of the red puddle in that it made HFC members more relevant than ever. I bet it's not what McCarty and McConnell intended.

There is a law that gives the Speaker of the House the ability to order the Seargent at Arms (after Congress votes on it) to go arrest citizens & government employees who violate congressional subpoenas - AND they have to the power to detain them.
Now think of this hypothetical example:
Schiff ignores subpoena.
Congress votes to arrest him.
McCarthy has him detained.

I'd be really careful about that. Establishing new precedents can come back to haunt them. The democrats kicked MJT off committees and now are shocked when the republicans returned the favor. If the republicans start arresting people you can bet the democrats will do the same.
There is a reason for the separation of powers. Congress should stick to legislation and not usurp executive powers.
