Twitter has once again taken action against President Trump, this time censoring a tweet for "glorifying violence" in his late-night response to the ongoing violence in Minneapolis.

Does anyone else besides me find it hilarious that the rioters are so emboldened by their weak mayor's response they effectively laid seige to and destroyed an actual police precinct? That's so outrageous that it's hilarious. This entire situation is so insane.

Oh and then there is this guy. And seeing as how they're dumb enough to storm a police station I tend to think they're stupid enough to storm the suburbs.

Everyone is allowed to use force to effect certain actions. That is not unique to cops.

Self defense is a valid defense for homicide everywhere in the US (easier to claim in some places than others, but valid everywhere)

Im not seeing it that way. The police have the authority to use force to effect an arrest , up to, and including lethal force. Civilians also have a right to use force, up to and including lethal force for defense of themselves or others .This applies equally for civilians and officers. The only difference( in theory) is the authority to arrest.

PC, For me would be , Are the lives of the officers in jeopardy? The obvious answer is no . It doesn't have to be investigated any further , there was no reasonable belief of serious bodily injury or death when the suspect was cuffed with 3 officers holding him down . There's no excuse or logical reason to apply pressure to the mans neck long after he stopped moving.


My suspicions of the delay, involve the prior district attorney Amy Kobachar and any prior disciplinary actions against the officers. I haven't researched it yet, but if there are cases the DA refused to move on, it could turn around and bite her in the ass. I don't know, I have to look in to more. But something tells me, somebody somewhere is covering their ass .

The law allows non cops to use force outside self defense situations too.

I am legally allowed in NY to use force, even lethal force to stop certain crimes, even if there is no one in jeopardy.

While I would not recommend it, a rioter lighting my garden shed on fire would be legally fair game (arson). Even if I take the shot from 100 yards away from my upstairs window with my doors locked and my whole family inside.

Non-deadly force can be used by non-cops in many more cases. In fact, a non-cop would probably have been legally allowed to use non-deadly force to prevent this guy from escaping, I'm not familiar with MN law, but in many jurisdictions that would be the case.

I think we can all agree that deadly force was not remotely authorized in this case for the cops.

So, that leads to the point where no, the cops were not legally authorized to use any more force than anyone else here.

There isn't anywhere near as much of a difference in the actual law for use of force by cops vs everyone else as it seems, the real difference is only the willingness of prosecutors to engage.

I agree with you, but this was a video recorded murder. Intentional or not, who knows. But you can't tell me there is no evidence to make an arrest. Guilty or not, well that's what the court system is for.

As much as I hate to admit it. Pulling the officers out of the station, was the right thing to do for the moment. It would have ended in the killing of protestors and police as they assaulted the building. Things could have been far worse.

However, it sets a bad precedent to the joggers. They may have been emboldened by it. It will be tried again , and sooner or later, blood will be shed.

I actually found it humorous that when arrested the journalists at CNN suddenly found God; i.e. suddenly felt the importance of the constitution. Yet I'm confident many who work there would have no problem with "hate speech" laws.

There is a reason official policy is not to negotiate with terrorists.

Because the Rights in this Country are not set in stone, they are more like "suggestions".
And it won't get fixed until some of the Rights that "they" care about are curtailed like is being done to the ones we care about.

As CNN fights this all the way to the Supreme Court, they, theoretically, pave the way for 2nd A. Rights to be restored as well.
Or they show, once and for all, that the S.C. refuses to judge 2A cases, at which point we know there is only one box left to use.
