I agree with you, but this was a video recorded murder. Intentional or not, who knows. But you can't tell me there is no evidence to make an arrest. Guilty or not, well that's what the court system is for.

Why would arresting them right away preclude an airtight investigation ?

Shouldn't you arrest people as soon as there is probable cause they committed a crime, and then let the investigation proceed ?

Yes on all accounts, this is the same as political elite. They, right now are ensuring that everything is perfect so there will no chance of error while at trial.

The real answer is that they want the news to move on to something else before the results of the investigation are released.

It’s more complicated than that. An initial arrest made improperly can ruin and entire prosecution. Simpletons think it’s because they are trying to protect him. There’s nothing we can do to change simpletons.

As was just pointed out, if you arrest him immediately without the actual legal basis, then why aren’t we arresting every cop who “commits misdemeanor assault” when effecting an arrest? That’s a crime too no? Let the courts sort them all out.

I have no doubt, but this needs an end now. Don't really matter if it's in the form of arrests, or the guard coming in and putting a stop to it. Directing traffic is laughable while their city burns down. Obviously the governor there is a giant pussy.

My opinion is they can arrest now also. Guy is down and cuffed. One on his back, one on his legs, one on crowd control. Granted these three are a tougher case and will be determined. But the dick with the knee on the carotid artery for 8 minutes really needs no further investigation. They had him under control and could have loaded him up inside 30 seconds. Officer pencil arms should be arrested immediately. The other 3, yes will be a bit more difficult to prove their guilt if any, other than extremely bad judgement.

Does anyone else besides me find it hilarious that the rioters are so emboldened by their weak mayor's response they effectively laid seige to and destroyed an actual police precinct? That's so outrageous that it's hilarious. This entire situation is so insane.

Everyone is allowed to use force to effect certain actions. That is not unique to cops.

Self defense is a valid defense for homicide everywhere in the US (easier to claim in some places than others, but valid everywhere)
