I know a guy who got a deer years ago shit squirrel hunting with a shotgun. The deer was about twelve feet away, broadside. A load of number six shot in the deers side just behind the shoulder and it was all over for the deer.

Maybe some of the law enforcement guys can comment, I'm sure any shooting whether they are killed or not they confiscate your firearm until every thing is investigated and then sided off by the DA or after the trial if you are found NOT GUILTY.

Would you take that chance with a loved one? I wouldn't. At 10 yards the pattern is this size with an average load. You may very well have to take a shot at that distance and that's not taking fliers into effect.

How about a struggle at the bottom of the stairs were the perp has your family member close to him and they are fighting for their lives to get control of a weapon?
