Need a daily knife

Ok so I know nothing about blades, but I really need to (want to) add a pocket knife to my EDC, its something I should have done sooner.

Here is the problems I dont want to spend a lot of money, I legit hardly ever need a knife but also sometimes may need a knife mainly utility wise? Also aesthetics is weirdly a thing for me and knives and while spiderco seems like a logical choice I just hate how they look like lizards but also I like lizards?

I have seen a few CRKT but then talked to a few people who mentioned that the steel is trashish and doesnt hold much of an edge.


So I guess I'll toss it out to you all, I'm hoping to stay under 100 maybe closer to 60 with wiggle room for a good daily carry knife (folder)

And while I know out of my budget but I have started looking at the Cold Steel Demko AD-15 Scorpion Lock Knife OD Green G-10 (3.5" Satin S35VN) 58SQ

But also was originally looking at the CRKT RADIC (the one was told not worth getting)

Would it be worth almost double tbr cost for the cold steel or should I be ok with the CRKT (which I think looks better)

i do have 2 Buck 110s, Esee izula (fixed), crkt pazoda and a kershaw with assisted opening. Kershaw and crkt were kidna meh brand new for sharpness. But thats easily fixable.

This is what I ended up with. I don’t use them but I carry the homefront when not at work. I use a beater 511 pocket knife while working. The spyderco, I don’t carry yet cause I haven’t figured out how to pull the knife out of my pocket deployed. I just need to practice more with it.

Yea I hear that the crkt (specifically the on I'm looking at) steel is meh and the edge is meh as well

I’ve had a Fox DART XT Tanto Karambit for years. Has the Emerson wave feature, G10 handle material, the clip is reversible. It’s one of the knives by Doug Marcaida. (Some people love him, some people dislike him. But for me, there’s no doubt he knows his way around edged weapons). I really like the knife. I tried carrying it on duty, but had to switch to a different knife because the Karambit ring would knock into my holster every time I moved and it drove me nuts. But when I’m in regular clothes, I usually have the Fox DART XT on me. I found a picture of it online since I don’t have a picture of my knife.

Spyderco paramilitary 3lw. Around $100, sharp as hell and very light weight.

If you can sharpen and want to stay really cheap. Ganzo are decent.

If you can sharpen a knife and are willing to put in 5-10 minutes every week or so (depending on usage), just about anything over the $20 mark will work.

For almost 15 years, I've had one of 2 Smith & Wesson knives clipped on my pocket. The first one lasted about 12 or 13 years, and was getting pretty beat looking when I swapped it out for the other. Earlier this year, I got a Leatherman with a pocket clip and started carrying it.

I've literally got boxes of pocket knives, and tend to carry something on the cheaper end that I don't mind using (or occasionally abusing) and won't be too upset if I loose it.

I’ve been rocking the Gerber Fastball for the last six months or so. Grabbed my initial one during a 25% off sale, bringing it to about $80 shipped after tax.

It flips open with just one finger, quick and smooth. The S30v steel keeps a decent edge, and takes one well too. The Wharncliffe profile is immensely useful for all of my day-to-day tasks.

My biggest bitch is really a little one. The grind is asymmetrical. It’s about 50% deeper on one side than on the other. Easy enough to remedy by reprofiling, but it shouldn’t be necessary on a blade in that price point. They DID have some QC issues early on, with really bad grinds and difficult opening, but it seems they’ve worked those out.

And yes, Gerber claims they’re being produced here in the US.

I have a benchmade since before the destroyed guns with the communists from Portland. My wife bought it for me for our 15th anniversary and I absolutely love it. I use it as you do from time to time for utility uses. I sharpen it once a year maybe. I’ve had it over 2 years and it’s held up wonderfully.
the Ontario rat is a great knife from what I’ve heard.
I hated spiderco knives as well until Vapor on here sold me some cheap for my son. They are great knives.
I personally like the s30v steel.

I carried a buck 110 in a quick draw knife sheath that opens the blade as you pull it out and it worked great. Im not a big knife collector but ive had a 110 for 20 years and its still sharp and works great.

Lately I carry a morakniv 3.5 inch fixed blade carbon steel . paid less then 10 dollars for it and its a great little knife once I made a horizontal sheath for it.

I've got a cheapo Kershaw. Easy to sharpen, comfy in my pocket. Have carried spyderco before and liked those as well.

Like @kev74 previously stated. You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg for a decent knife. If you’re able to sharpen it well, then you’ll be good to go. Just don’t buy some really cheap piece of crap for .99 cents at a dollar store. The other knife I carry besides my nice and fancy Fox DART XT is a Kershaw Shuffle II. It’s a pretty cheap knife price wise. You can get one for like $20. I bought two of them at once and got a discount for $35. They have held up really well. It’s definitely sharp. Has never become loose on me at all. As a matter of fact, I’m carrying one of them on duty right now.

Nothing wrong with Spyderco knives and they do also make a ball bearing lock which is similar to the axis lock.

I can't say enough about about Benchmade. I have the Contego and carry it daily in my pants pocket although a little on the large side. Quality and craftsmanship is outstanding. Yes there are other great knives out there also, and I've had/have a few. I will never look back. Customer service is also outstanding. I carried mine for a couple years and the pocket clip bent a couple times while working. It had gotten snagged two or three times and I bent it back in place. A couple more times of this and it snapped off. I almost tossed the knife in a drawer due to the larger size of the model. Although not huge it takes up a little bit of reality when sharing space. Anyway I Emailed Benchmade, (or called....don't remember which), and received a new replacement clip free of charge. That was a little over a year ago and have had no issues since. It doesn't even catch on anything anymore like the first. Although Benchmade is a little on the pricey side, I highly recommend them. In my mind, they are the sharpest knife in the drawer....figuratively speaking.

Ive carried a knife for 30+ years.
Ive got dozens of knives I bought because of reviews and advice.
Most are ok but none were all around perfect.
Ive spent from $15-$300 on a pocket knife.
I always thought I wanted a knife with half serrated and half blade. The serrations are nice for cutting rope and such and cut well even when dull.
Now I have realized a few things.
You dont need to spend alot on a knife.
You dont need serrations if you can sharpen a knife...which is easy and fun.
And, one handed opening is a HUGE must. Probably 95% of the time, I am holding something in my left hand and need my knife. An assisted open is essential for me.
For the last 2 years ive been carrying a Kershaw Speedsafe....which was $20.
It holds a decent edge, opens very quickly and easily and because of the shape, it takes up no room in your pocket when clipped.

Works very well... I carry a lot in my pocket so I don't want a large knife. I also have lost many knives in my life. so spending a lot of money on a knife is a waste for me .. I do however carry a Ka-bar in my bug out bag ...
