I've had my permit for about 35 yrs now. Until this past January there was technically no link between our permit and our drivers license. This changed back in January when anyone who had their permits issued before January 15, 2013 had to 'recertify' their permit. On this recert we had to list, for the first time, our drivers license ID#. Obviously this created the database link between our permit and the DMV. This being said, I'm sure any new applicant for their CCP is required to list their DL# on the application as well.
With this database link, any traffic stop in NYS will alert the LEO we have a permit. Not necessarily carrying at that moment, but could possibly be carrying. No need for them to fish much anymore. Unless they overstep their authority and ask you point blank, 'Mr. XXX are you in possession of your S&W M&P Shield 45 today?'.
Bottom line, I'm sure many of us have been stopped while carrying in the past, without the LEO knowing we were. No incidents, no problems, no altercations. Now that some skittish or anti-2A LEO's know we might be carrying, different attitudes could possibly be encountered.
