The way I read it this essentially says you may buy whatever you want unless it’s a registered assault weapon? How would anyone know that ammo is or isn’t for that registered weapon. Also how would an ammunition seller know if you had a registered assault weapon or not? Will NYS share those records? Unconstitutional for sure. I guess she’s dumber than she looks.

Well it’s not 20 rounds because in NYC they only allow 5 round mags so in NYC it’s 10 rounds. Yes I’m aware NYC doesn’t allow assault weapons.
The law actually reads two times the magazine capacity.

It specifies no revolvers or pistols are included in this.

The way I read it, it should not impact anyone with an AR or AK, as the mags are pinned, not an AW. Well, except LE, who are exempt from pinning mags. Exempt until you get to this steaming pile of words.
Now since pistols are excluded, I know of a lot of them in AR platform in all kinds of calibers. Then there are guns like the M&P 1522. I have a 9mm carbine AR and on it goes.
This is a very poorly written, I can guess the intent but the written words have meaning and the intent got lost. Still, give it time, with the crap coming at us for ammo, more will be done and written so that intent is not lost.

Hmm. I believe the only so called legal, as defined by the SAFE ACT as "assault weapon" here in NY are the ones owned by those who decided to comply and register them under that grace period. Everything else that was modified for compliance to the SAFE ACT is no longer an assault weapon as defined by NY. It doesn't explicitly exempt LEO's and those LE organizations so they will therefor have to comply with this new law.

If they define any AR platform an Assault Weapon? What happens to people who have the hideous Troy pump AR or Fightlite SCR or their AR based lever action?
If they put the limit on .223/5.56 because it is used in an AW, will people who have Mini-14s, or Ruger Ranchers in .223/5.56 be fucked? Hell... they'd have to put limits on so many centerfire cartridges because many are used on AR15/10 platforms.

If I understand this correctly this applies to firearms registered with NY. How do you prove you have a registered firearm? Were you given a card or something? Does this mean someone without proof of a registered firearm is unable to purchase any ammo?

As of 4/2023 they will be doing background checks on ammo and I’m assuming this will be part of the check if this passes and you’ll be denied the sale.
