HST 45s expanded to .85 and in the same test the 9mm HST can in at .65.

For the record the HST 147 grain +p is my 9mm carry load, I dont have a carry load for 45 since I dont carry a 45.

It depends on who does the test and measures it. Shootingthebull410 and TNoutdoors9 for example do an average expansion diameter measurement and don't just measure the leading talons.

Regardless, a talon that didn't peel back compared to one that did isn't going to cause a different result unless you are talking about a nik vs a miss of a vital.

Really. Let's look at some facts here. The Winchester Silvertip 115 gr 9mm failed the FBI in 1986. The bullet went through an arm and into the chest on the side where the heart is. The round expanded in the arm, exited the arm and entered the chest and stopped an inch from the heart.

That same round tested today penetrates 10 to 11 inches. Newer ammo penetrates 12 to 14 inches on average now. So it should be sufficient now on paper. Now take that same shot and instead it goes through the arm and expands just like the previous scenario but it enters the chest on the opposite side and instead of traveling a few inches to the heart like the previous scenario is it now has to travel the entire length of the chest from the opposite side to reach the heart area.

Now add a barrier like a car door before that and or some extra distance more than 10 ft where velocity is slowed down even further. Put a thick leather jacket on and now the round has to penetrate leather in the arm first, expand, penetrate leather again to exit the arm, and have to penetrate leather again to enter the chest.

Remember, 4 inches in gel is only about the depth of human skin. It isn't a 1 to 1 ratio. A BB penetrates 4 inches of gel if it's calibrated properly. That same BB just barely penetrates the skin.

So an extra 3 to 4 inches in gel isn't that much more that the 11 inches in gel that failed them previously. 12 inches in gel is the absolute minimum for normal scenarios but for other scenarios, 18 inches is preferable. Depending on the scenario, even more is necessary.

Yes, really. And here is how, the situation you asked about would make to stupid to try to accomplish the task with a pistol regardless of reasonable caliber. I would take a head shot. I have no clue why you would shoot at the door where you cant see the target when the head is clearly visible through the window.

This time you are starting it.

I was going to let it rest. Anyway, head shots aren't always ideal. Hence why it almost never happens with law enforcement. The perp doesn't always sit still for you to line up your shots. Sometimes you just have to pepper the door.

You have an answer for everything. Take that picture of that guy shooting at you above. Now put him in a kneeling position. You'll have to go through an arm or knee to hit vitals.

Your marksmanship isn't going to be marksmanship at all if things happen fast. You'll probably not even have a chance to look through your sights. You'll point in the general direction and hope for the best.

But what do I know. Your experience at shooting at non moving paper targets probably outshines mine.

Had an opportunity to shoot a G45 tonight

If you like Glocks this is a nice one. With grip being full length and no finger grooves it feels nice, I might shave the grooves on my G34. The new gen5 triggers are nicer imo, but still a Glock. Fired only 2 mags shot it very well, it did have HD sights which are the best for me.

I hate to admit it but think this configuration might improve balance. I fired as fast as I could see the sights and it seemed easy. Makes me want to shoot a G19, 45, and 17 and compare notes.
