Your tagline is quite apropos...I actually just got my permit and I've been searching for months for the firearm that I became quite familiar with at the range. Despite the dead ends and scammer websites I've come across, I feel like I can't give up the search.Howdy, also from Orange Co.

What are you looking for? Some of us spend way too much time looking at gun stuff.Your tagline is quite apropos...I actually just got my permit and I've been searching for months for the firearm that I became quite familiar with at the range. A Walther PPQ M2. As they make a particular 10rd version, my LGS doesn't recommend getting the non-legal 15rd, even with a 10rd mag. So I've been scouring the web trying to find one, but I've come across some web articles that mentions a legal (if it is truly illegal at all) way of doing just that. Because I've become quite familiar with it and actually bought the Umarex air pistol version as they are as close to the actual firearm that you can get weight/size-wise to practice grip and stance. I've even field dressed it preparing to actually own the real one! HAHAWhat are you looking for? Some of us spend way too much time looking at gun stuff.
At this point, I'd even resort to the M1 if it absolutely came down to it.What are you looking for? Some of us spend way too much time looking at gun stuff.
Thank you, one of my favorite wineries is in Ulster!Welcome

Both are very likely I'm afraid, but what you've described is exactly what I mentioned to my LGS and the second I mentioned it, he shook his head in a disapproving manner. And I figured that there wouldn't be any significant difference besides the mag capacity, so I do wonder why he shot the idea down. So it is possible to simply buy the firearm without the mag, which isn't a problem as I'd just be buying extras anyway...I should have joined this forum months ago...Thanks!!I feel like you're either confused about some things, or perhaps just the way you wrote it out here it is confusing. I would not be surprised if your LGS gave you bad info or gave it to you in a confusing manner.. plenty of stories like that around here.
When you say, "getting the non-legal 15rd, even with a 10rd mag", do you mean ordering the gun to your FFL with a standard round mag and just not having them give you the included mag(s) and buying your own 10 rounders ? The way you put it makes it sound like you're under the impression that something is different about the gun itself, and that's not the case. There isn't any NY legal or not NY legal version of the gun (unless you're talking about one with a threaded barrel or some banned feature). The only difference with a 10 round version is that 10 round mags are included at the factory, instead of standard capacity, and it will have a different factory item number (SKU number, whatever). The scenario I described above is also perfectly legal, it's just that you'd lose the money on having to replace the mags that the store/FFL can't sell to you along with the gun.
It is the case that Walther does have a different SKU for each of its 10- and 12/15-rd versions, so I always thought the guy might be onto something if NY does actually scrutinize that sort of thingOr is it that Walther simply doesn't package a 10 round version at all ? I'm not familiar enough with the gun to know, but that is the case with some guns.
I'm sure you've been to Master Class - nice guys that will not steer you wrong.Smack dab in the middle of Monroe, moved here from the city a couple of years ago with the family and have loved it since.
Yes, now that I have my permit, I’ve been going there more often. Everyone has been really helpful. Was going to NJ for range time when I could in the past, but they’re great at Master ClassI'm sure you've been to Master Class - nice guys that will not steer you wrong.
You guys are showing me a light just when I thought I was done for - thank you!I've purchased Glocks before from out of state FFL that were listed for sale with standard capacity mags but asked selling FFL to swap out mags with 10 rounders. Pistol received by my local FFL with 10 round mag and transferred no questions asked. May want to make a few calls to see if any would help. As far as I am aware SKU no doesn't get recorded on any federal transfer documents and it's perfectly legal for your FFL to transfer a state compliant pistol irrespective of manufacturer packaging. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
Thanks, I’m assuming to “greener pastures” for some reason or other! LOLWelcome from a somewhat soon to be in the not too long near future ex Ulster county resident.
You'll find out why. Greener pastures and pastures with less Hochul, Gillibrand and Schumer. Thanks, I’m assuming to “greener pastures” for some reason or other! LOL
Sorry I missed this one, nice to meet youHowdy.
FIFY.So quick update, I was able to contact a dealer willing to sell without thehigh-capstandard mags and linked with the same FFL dealer holding a Kimber I just picked up at the gun show in Middletown last weekend. Just waiting on the BOS and I'll be all set pending the amendments.
Thanks again for the great advice!
Good point, limited vocabulary and much to learnPlease refer to them as "Standard" capacity. Don't fuel the BS narrative.
