Yea, I'm not so much locked into Walther as a brand, I just found that PPS perfect for what I wanted at the time. I agree with the P365 almost being too small. It's nice and I do like the trigger, but it doesn't quite fit a role for me. It's too heavy, Imo, especially fully loaded to pocket carry. As a belt gun, I'd rather have something somewhat larger and more shootable. The Shield Plus would be a higher cap edc upgrade for my Walther at about the same size, but brings me from 7+7 rds of .40 how I normally carry it to 11+10 rds of 9mm. As far as the others go, I'm definitely in the "Ruger is for wheelguns and .22s" camp, and I'd go for a P365 over Hellcat.Hmnnnn, well the P365 is also a fine pistol and has better sights and IMO a nicer trigger. However in my hands the P365 is a bit too small and it was snappier and a bit harder to keep on target...... from what I remember anyway, I only shot the P365 once and it was last summer plus I am obviously biased. That's said I picked my original Shield over its competitors due to its heft, size and balance feeling just right to me. More generally I am very enthusiastic regarding these high capacity micro pistols, I found myself carrying my original Shield more frequently than the Glock 19 and I was always a little wary about the relative lack of firepower. The P365, Shield Plus, Ruger Max-9.......... and I suppose the Springfield Hellcat *cough* fuck Springfield *cough* all give us the best of all worlds for a carry gun. Hell, with the extended magazines installed they could even serve as decent house guns............. well maybe not in NYS. Sorry.
I think any of these pistols are worth a very hard look as an upgrade to your PPS. I wonder if Walther will be getting into this game? Walther kind of does as it pleases so who knows?
Hell yea. Honestly, I think the Gen 5 G23 is at the top of my list for the sake of the slightly longer barrel. I like that the slide is a little thicker. Part of what got me excited for the Gen 5 .40s is that they seem to have beefed up the platform for .40 a bit. I like handloading for the .40 and while I don't go for nuclear +P, a 180 grain bullet over a max charge of Longshot powder is a handful and delivers some serious power traveling over 1150 fps. Great for a woods load.I have the gen 5 Glock 27 and it shoots fantastic. It feels like shooting my 9mm Glock. I run the pinky extension mags so it holds 10 rounds of 40 in the mags. One thing to be aware of is that the slide on the gen 5 40 cal glocks is 1-2mm wider then previous Gen 40 cal glocks so holster fitment is an issue. I had to have a custom holster made for mine.
