Heard about this yesterday at the LGS. Just thought I'd pass it along for those of you who may be so inclined.

Next thing you know they'll release a 9mm or something!must be for Canada being metric LOL .
5.7x28mm
The problem is that the 22 hornet is too long and it is a rim so it cannot.be compared. The .22 Hornet beat them to the punch years and years ago
On the list for one of the first purchases once we get to AZ.If I wasn't in PRNY, I'd own a PS90.

.22 Winchester Magnum
Note the test barrel length, about 10" for the 5.7 and 24" for the .22 Win Mag. The former has significantly more energy than the latter.
Bullet mass/type Velocity Energy 30 gr. (1.9 g) HP 2,300 ft/s (700 m/s) 322 ft⋅lbf (437 J) 40 gr. (2.6 g) JHP 1,875 ft/s (572 m/s) 324 ft⋅lbf (439 J) 50 gr. (3.2 g) JHP 1,530 ft/s (470 m/s) 300 ft⋅lbf (410 J) Test barrel length: 24 inches (610 mm)
The 5.7x28 is a bit like a modernized .22 Hornet although the Hornet can be hand loaded beyond what the 5.7 can manage.
I even searched for it before I posted it nothing came up. Search function really doesn't work so great.New Ruger 5.7

The 5.7 doesn't do 2500fps out of a pistol, more like 2,000. Still, that kind of velocity is going to do more damage to steel at the typical pistol distances and there has to be a greater risk for backsplash and ricochets. The 5.7x28 is more similar to a rifle round in the way it behaves. We already had a 5.7 show up at club shooting steel at pistol range
One club I belong to already has started discussions on what to do, if anything, about the 5.7 pistol round on our ranges. We have several locations that are limited to shooting steel with non magnum pistol calibers in pistols or revolvers only, (PCC not allowed.) Here comes the 5.7 at 2500 FPS. It ain’t your daddy’s 9mm or grand dads .45. The impact on steel sounds like a rifle. Last week we already had a member shooting steel with one and and one of club officers heard it an investigated. Pistol owner agreed to help evaluate if there is any safety issue or damage to steel with this cartridge at short range steel. ( think dueling trees). Club officer got to shoot it and thought it was cool.
