Such a shame. The laws need to change, but until that time, people need to know the laws.
Many call for change to state gun laws
Many call for change to state gun laws
I think many people living in free states do not appreciate the paranoid state we have to live in just to get by. My sister travels in regularly from (now) Michigan. Prior she lived in VA, FL, and CO. I had to in depth explain to her why I can travel to MI with my firearm and permit and she can't come past PA with hers into NY. She moved out of NY when she was 19 (USAF retired); back at 19 she had no desire to even fire a firearm. She's a huntress now w/her boyfriend and we regularly discuss reloading. She had no idea how anal retentive NY is.They "call" for a change but Cuomo isn't answering he phone. BTW, as much as I HATE the laws, you would think that you would know what they are if you are potentially going to put yourself in a situation like this.
I think two already did.Someone will say that she should have known the laws and that they have no sympathy for her 2A rights being violated in 3, 2, 1...
I didn't say I have no sympathy. I think most on here would know where I stand when it comes to this topic. I merely pointed out that if I was traveling somewhere with my firearm, possibly because I live in such a fucked up state, I would double and triple check what I'm doing so I don't screw myself even more than I am already screwed.I think two already did.
To All American's. New Yorkistan is home of "The Big Apple". Your rights as a citizen end when you cross into New Yorkistan. If you own a knife or a firearm, DO NOT COME TO New Yorkistan. You will be arrested for having constitutional rights. It doesn't matter who you are (unless you are well connected to Emperor Cuomo or Bill DeBlasio) you will be arrested and detained. New Yorkistan will ruin your life, period. there is no discussion, no dismissal. No way out. You will be a burden to the NY taxpayer for anywhere from 1 to 5 years. When you are released, you will be a convicted felon. Enjoy your stay
So basically what you are saying is that an idiot should know the infringements on the 2A made by the blue states they are traveling to and they shouldn't get a pass by those willing to enforce those infringements passed into law by enemies of the Constitution.I wonder where they pistol was during her visit? She went a little beyond changing flights, “accidentally” crossing into NY, etc. No one in her upstate family knew firearms laws enough to warn her?
Idiots come in many forms. They don’t get a pass simply because their idiocy involves the 2nd Amendment.
Every airport is different. At Stewart there are no cops. You declare to the ticket agent. It's up to them to call the cops on you if you can't produce a NY PP.Something doesn't make sense to me.
According to the story, " Leach was arrested after she tried to declare a handgun before checking into her Southwest flight."
She was not trying to go through security. It was not a case of missing the handgun in her luggage. She was trying to do the right thing and declare the handgun during checkin, per TSA protocol. This means that the Southwest agent notified someone that Leach was trying to check a handgun. And who would the Southwest agent notify? In the dozens upon dozens of times I've flown with firearms, I've NEVER had them notify TSA. It's ALWAYS been the police assigned to the airport, if anyone. In this case, it's the Albany County Sheriff's Office.
And Craig Apple, the Albany County Sheriff says things like "The TSA is doing a great job." (TSA had nothing to do with this.) He expresses sympathy for otherwise law-abiding people who are getting caught up in this POS law. He has stated "things need to change." He has gone on record as saying the SAFE Act in unenforceable, unconstitutional, and wrong.
And at the same time, his Deputies are getting involved where they don't have to, and are arresting people unnecessarily.
Look at what's going on here. Craig Apple is talking out both sides of his mouth.
When I checked pistols at White Plains Airport (in Westchester), the desk attendant handling check in escorted my with my bag over to a TSA screener. The TSA agent said, "I'm going to put your bag through the x-ray. If it comes up with an alert, I'll call the police over to check it out." I wanted to say, "What do you mean 'IF' there is an alert? I just told you there were pistols in the luggage." Anyway, once the bag triggered an alert, the TSA agent called for the police to come check the pistols. The officer asked for my permit, checked that the pistols were unloaded, had me re-secure the case, and told me to have a good trip. That took about 2 minutes. And who would the Southwest agent notify? In the dozens upon dozens of times I've flown with firearms, I've NEVER had them notify TSA. It's ALWAYS been the police assigned to the airport, if anyone. In this case, it's the Albany County Sheriff's Office.

She wasn't licensed in NY so should not have had possession of it in this shit hole state to begin with. The federal transportation laws do not apply because she stopped in NY and this was not an uninterrupted trip from CO. With a pistol you must be legal where you start and end your trip.
So basically what you are saying is that an idiot should know the infringements on the 2A made by the blue states they are traveling to and they shouldn't get a pass by those willing to enforce those infringements passed into law by enemies of the Constitution.
My comment wasn't about federal law.
It was about a Sheriff who says the SAFE Act is unenforceable and shouldn't be enforced, and then his Deputies do it anyway.
I thought I was. Guess I need practice in reading comprehension.Take it up with someone else who said it.
Which makes my point. Law Enforcement is getting involved unnecessarily.
Why do the ticket agents care about a pistol permit? They should only care if the firearm is being declared properly.
Why do the TSA screeners care about a pistol permit? They should only care that the firearm is being declared properly.
Why do the police even have to know about it?
Im going to have to be on the "what a dumbass, she should research before traveling" side here.
Its not what should be the law
But, what is the law.
I know consealed carriers from Arizona, Florida, Utah, Wyoming, Montana......they all know NYS gun laws are horrifying.
I wouldnt go to an airport before knowing the laws in the state im going to, thats just common sense.
Saying "but my 2nd amendment right" doesnt mean shit to a NYS judge.
