It was a joke but if you believe your sheriff will ignore an order from the state as per Penal Law 400, I've got a bridge to sell you.
Your permit is only good as long as you follow Penal Law 400. Failure to follow Penal Law 400 and your permit is not valid. No sheriff is going to not enforce the Penal Law and continue issuing amendments to a permit that isn't valid.
Come on guys. You are smarter than this. Elected sheriff's cannot break Penal Laws.

I know for a true complete fact my county ones won't, plus almost a dozen Troopers I see weekly said they never do and never will. That's why so many of us are on different views of Safe,compliance,fear,magazine count and so on, some counties officials are with us(as Putnam is) and others must not be. Thus making some citizens shit their pants

Okay. Let's play the game. Sheriff Joe from Jane County, NY says he won't enforce Penal Law 265 and 400. Great. He doesn't. You fail to recertify and he ignores the state when they tell him to revoke your permit. Failure to recertify is in violation of Penal Law 400 which gives you the exemption from prosecution Penal Law 265.
So now you are carrying on a permit that isn't valid. Do you honestly think that the state will let that pass? How about if you leave your county on your daily travels? What happens when you buy another handgun? Is the judge going to sign off on the amendment on a permit that isn't valid?
Read Penal Law 400 to educate yourself. I'm guessing you are also taking others cops words that they won't enforce the Unsafe Act too right.

And unfortunately he only has the authority to issue you an exemption from Penal Law 265 via a Permit under the guidelines from Penal Law 400.My Judge who signed mine is a member of my gun club
If he didn't have to follow those guidelines, he could issue you a permit that says it's valid in NYC right now.

An article linking a sheriff's words is no fact at all when you ignore the fact that sheriff's don't issue permits and permits are exemptions from Penal 265 issued via permits from Penal Law 400.

Here's some more opinion taken from Penal Law 400. But hey, your sheriff will protect to you.
All registrants shall recertify to the division of state police every five years thereafter. Failure to recertify shall result in a revocation ofsuch registration.
(c) In any instance in which a person's license is suspended or revoked under paragraph (a) or (b) of this subdivision, such person shall surrender such license to the appropriate licensing official and any and all firearms, rifles, or shotguns owned or possessed by such person shall be surrendered to an appropriate law enforcement agency as provided in subparagraph (f) of paragraph one of subdivision a of section 265.20 of this chapter. In the event such license, firearm, shotgun, or rifle is not surrendered, such items shall be removed and declared a nuisance and any police officer or peace officer acting pursuant to his or her special duties is authorized to remove any and all such weapons.
15. Any violation by any person of any provision of this section is a class A misdemeanor.

First of all who said the sheriff would protect anyone? I just said they won't be kicking doors in here. I stand by that statement. The state will have to do their own dirty work. You can site penile law whatever. This is unchartered territory. The sheriff does not have to send door kickers out no matter what the king says.
