NEWSFLASH: Pistol Permit Recertification

My point is that the information is on record with the appropriate authority.. I am not on thier payroll, and to be honest.. it's none of thier fucking business what anyone possesses.. anyone that has a permit (with few exceptions) are law abiding citizens who went through the process. Why harass us anymore..

Preaching to the choir that agrees with you is not going to make it go away. Lacking a court decision, taking up arms is the only way and none here are ready for that.

As it stands it's either fill out the paperwork so they can update their records or lose your license.

One or the other.

Crying about it to us or refusing to fill out the paper isn't going to make it go away.

I'm in awe and really admire the tough guys taking stands on this recertification willing to lose their ability to protect themselves while recertifying their PA non resident and paying a fee.

I don't mean you @gun_slinger_boy. Your case is different. But you get admirations anyway for leaving.

Edit...And for the record, this doesn't mean waiting a year, getting the letter saying your permit is about to be revoked and then recertifying. It means total non compliance down to the knock on the door and everything thereafter.

You keep comparing this to PA, but PA LCF's do NOT list guns, and are NOT required if you have the gun in your home, fixed place of business, or from your home to your recreational home (if unloaded and secured), etc.

I don't think people would care (at least not nearly as much) if the permit re-certification didn't require you to list your gun's and their serials.

This is a big part of why I am so vocal in my skepticism of this "recertification".

My wife submitted a Foil request to see if she was on the list, so she could apply for her Permit without worrying about being denied, and she got backs refusal to disclose if she was on the list or not..

The analogy makes sense. PA requires you to renew. They don't require to know what you have.

NY requires you to renew. They already know what you have. In that case, it's the same damned thing. The only difference is that you have to write longer renewing your NY license.

Ah yes, the formation of one big data base, which will be used for exactly what? Could it be that a newspaper not worthy of lining a bird cage (The Urinal News), wants something more to print? Is it a plot/plan to remove all handguns from New Yorker's? A connection to your driver's licence, a new reason for probable cause? Is there a fee or any cost involved to do this? The NYSP do have all your info already. Every time you sign an amendment to add or subtract a handgun with your county clerk, that form is forwarded to the SP.

The question is, what have they done with that info? I doubt that they have input any or all of it yet into a data base.

They have now undertaken a task that I'm not sure even they have anticipated (especially if everyone who complies does so in written form rather than online). There will be smoke coming out of Albany.

The people who may get hung up are those who have not been diligent in keeping up with their permit. I know plenty of people who still have shit on their permit that they sold long ago and never bothered to have it taken off. If the SP ever get a consolidated data base they will have the ability to do all kinds of searching and cross checking by serial number.

Because they already renew every 5 years. Their record keeping is current.

They know when someone dies or moved away.

It's not that they aren't current, it may just be that they aren't consolidated and now that they have formed an actual division of SP for pistols, they want us to do the leg work for them. Maybe it's a dim wit attempt at transparency, in the sense that to show us what info they are putting into this data base( to perhaps aleviate any negative speculation), they are asking us to give it to them (even though they have it already). I'm just playing devils advocate here. The whole thing is dumb and disconcerting, but it may not be as nefarious as we think. IDK.

Not always. I know someone who had an old paper NY permit with no picture that lives in CT. He never got anything.
