This is why I do not believe in the feds taking so much in tax and returning it to the states via funding. This is how the fed consolidates power.
Why give it back when the states can collect it in the first place?
Take away the money and you take away the power of the feds, as well as the consequences of state run government.

I mean, if States and cities can declare themselves "sanctuary" states and cities in violation of federal immigration law I don't see why the states shouldn't be allowed to pick and choose what executive orders they enforce. I mean already started down that path where laws at all levels are being selectively enforced and EOs aren't even laws.

In principle the only people the president can even issue orders to are federal employees. All EOs are just telling them how to do their jobs.
He can't tell states or private citizens 6o do *anything*.
In reality, EO's tend to tell the federal employees to enforce extra legal BS on the rest of the country.

Just like the covid lockdowns can't be enforced criminally because they violate the 1st amendment.

Totally agree! The states should all agree to unilaterally take over the administration and disbursement to the federal gov’t of all taxes. Further, the counties should take over all collections to the state. Isolate the Feds from the money and you cut them down to size very quickly.

If all the red states had the balls to do this, I think the federal overreach we are used to seeing would be cut down a little bit. People tend to forget “a sovereign nation of many sovereign states” is the way it was supposed to be.

Well...couple bumps in the road on this path...first...Repubs have no balls...2nd...this would just initiate more democraptic congressional "power" to ruin the people involved. The dems do whatever they like..legal or not, and then are taken care of with the "judges" they appointed.

True, but, the states, working collectively, would have the power to blunt moves made by the Feds. Also, if they control the money flow to the federal gov’t, then, they have the power. If the dems or repubs in congress overreach, you hold up the money. In the end, money is power.

The major fly in the ointment here is that in vast majority, Republicans have no balls, will not stand firm on principle, and are supremely concerned about offending people.
So, while it’s a nice thought, I don’t think anything meaningful will actually happen. Sort of like a lot of SAFE act resolutions.

The feds will seize assets of the citizens of those states directly for tax money.
The big banks and other corporations will do the actual work.
There is little the state governments could do to stop them.
Also, the feds don't actually need tax money. They can print as much as they want.
They only reason they tax at all is to offset some of the money they print to keep inflation in check.
