NY Compliant Glock Carbine Build

Hello,

I do not have a NY pistol permit but would like to build a Glock pistol carbine which is NY Compliant.

Since all pistols have pistol grips by definition, it either must have a fixed magazine or be bolt action. It seems the easiest way to achieve this is to build a polymer80 glock kit, attach a Lock, Stock, and Barrel kit to have a 16 inch barrel and stock, and then use the Easy Bolt to convert the Glock to bolt action.

This seems completely legal to me as long as I don't keep any pistol-length barrels around (constructive possession of an SBR/Pistol?) and use blue loctite to tighten the bolt action kit so it is not easily removed and converted back to an assault weapon... Am I correct in my belief here?

Well my thinking is that in this configuration I would be able to cross state lines, remove the bolt action attachment and stock, and attach a normal length barrel to use it as a pistol when outside of the state.

You can possess a rifle in any state except for NJ (and maybe Cali? I don’t know), but definitely not have a pistol anywhere unless you have a permit or are in a few specific states.

Couldn't I shoot in a state like PA which requires no permit for pistol possession or NJ which appears to have an exception for going directly to and from shooting ranges?

I'm of the camp that a fixed magazine isn't legal as per the NY Penal Law so some may say I'm biased.

With that said, it would be almost impossible to load a pistol with a fixed magazine. It's hard enough as it is to load a pistol magazine with a stiff spring by itself.

You are better off buying the new Ruger or an AR pistol calibered carbine with a Thordsen stock.

With that said, it would be almost impossible to load a pistol with a fixed magazine. It's hard enough as it is to load a pistol magazine with a stiff spring by itself.

You are better off buying the new Ruger or an AR pistol calibered carbine with a Thordsen stock.

I've pretty much given up on the fixed magazine idea at this point, which is why I'm leaning towards using the Easy Bolt device linked above.

That is one of the ugliest pieces of california technology I've seen so far in 2018. Should be legal as you describe it with that contraption though. Ugly and a little bit silly being 25acp out of a rifle barrel, but that's one way to do it without getting a pistol permit I guess. I wouldn't lock a magazine on a handgun though, loading will be ridiculously stupid and extremely difficult and if you get a jam or double feed, it won't be easy or safe to remedy. I'd recommend just doing an ar in 9mm too with a fixed magazine. That should be much easier to load and more fun to use. That way you can take the stupid lock out when you're in a free state to go shooting and you won't have to use a tardstock or circumcised barrel.

Nope. I'm certain it would be easier to load than through an ejection port on a glock pistol though.

Looks like a REALLY expensive undertaking.

You still need a Gen 4 slide assembly, trigger, mag release mechanism, and the other doo dads that go inside the frame.

There is a Glock 17 minus the frame on Ebay right now. the guy had it on a Polymer 80 . Current bid is $380.
Unfortuneatly, it is a Gen 3 and you need a Gen 4 kit.

So $300 ( msrp ) for the L, S & B
$150 for the Easy Bolt
$400 for the Glock kit
$160 for the Polymer 80

So for $1k you have a Ghost Gun..

I admire the attempt to work around the system but seems like a bit much.

The fixed magazine rifles and pistols using rifle calibers will be easily fed stripper clips in less than half a second (now with the option to manually or automatically close the bolt). As far as I know, the feed lips on pistol caliber magazines cannot be utilized in the same way with stripper clips. Like Will mentioned, even loading by hand handgun magazines can often be a pain in the ass by itself. Having said that, Now there are two known specifically manufactured side feeding stripper clips for the ar-15 platform (not for 9mm) utilizing the fixed magazines. The link you provided has been implemented by a company called "dark stain... ahem... storm" industries for the ar-15 platform. Very little people have chosen that route, but it's all personal choice.

Why not? I have been shooting my pistol in NJ almost every month for over 5 years.

No issues at all. I have it unloaded and secured as directed by NJ law.

Easy as pie.

Its easy (once you remove the set screw). Although, without removing the set screw you have to remove the upper in which case its slow and annoying.

So is top loading a 9mm. Even worse. It doesn't also doesn't need to be JRC. There are plenty of other standard AR PCC rifles.

I've only been to or through NJ once in the last few years, for when my cousin got married to a guy on the NYPD. I avoid the state at all costs since there's no chance in hell I trust NJSP to give a damn about peaceable journey.

I didn't find it to be overpriced, I guess that is a matter of personal opinion. I don't seem to have any problems taking mine apart to clean/service it, right down to the firing pin. Mine is not NYS compliant, so no screwy Thordsen stock, so my grip angle is a standard AR grip. Maybe not as good as an AR9 (subjective of course), but I already had non-neutered ARs, and decided I wanted something different. Mine is the take-down model, that takes my Glock mags. Not looking for an argument, I respect everyone's differing opinions, just stating my opinion. ANNNND we all know what they say about opinions!!

I agree, I wouldn't want a top loading 9mm in any fashion. The pistol grips are more natural and comfortable in the hand though, so that was a deal breaker for me. I wanted to pretend to feel I didn't care, but it was too awful. I was going to buy a justright carbine 9mm years ago. I'm really glad I didn't after watching the poor reviews and takedown feature. I believe they've updated the take down features, but I still don't like it anymore. They wanted $1200 which looking back, it didn't even have sights or anything, and came with one magazine. I really have no use for a 9mm carbine.

They're like assholes and everyone has one, I know. $1200 is not something I couldn't afford, I just think it's overpriced subjectively speaking for what it is IMO. I have non NYS compliant rifles as well which is why I was never able to except that screwy thordsen stock. To be honest, I hated that gun store too, The service was so bad and I guess I wasn't the only one who thought the same way.

Not a bad option, I was considering that or the new Ruger PC Carbine but I figured one built on a Glock base would be more versatile as it could be converted to a pistol when outside of the state.

The JRC RUNS around $650. $750 for a Kryptek camo take down model with back pack . This is for a 9mm version for NY.
10mm, 45, 40 may be more.
Current Gen guns seem to have the bugs worked out and have good reviews.

Does not have the versatility of what the OP put forth.
