NY compliant "Other Firearm"

Guess I got some bad information but at what point does it go from a pistol to a rifle if you can put a 20" barrel on an ar upper and the lower was never designated as a pistol.

Not looking to argue I know everyone has their opinion on this But a pistol has to have a barrel length of 12" or shorter. These are 12.5 so technically they cant call it a pistol.

Show me the law that says a pistol has to have a barrel length of 12" or shorter

CT Defines a Pistol as have a barrel length of 12” or Shorter, Is NOT an AOW, as it over 26” in overall length, and features a vertical forward grip.

In regards to the barrel length, DEC regulation is a maximum of 16" for a pistol. As a result, if you wanted to be extra safe with the "other" you could get a barrel over 16", have a vertical grip, and no stock. Then it's not a pistol by NY DEC definition and not a rifle since it's not designed to be fired from the shoulder.

Pistol barrel length isn't in the penal code but there is precedent of DEC hunting regulations being enforced as law outside of hunting. If I remember correctly someone in the 60s had a loaded shotgun in their car when they were pulled over and they got charged and convicted.
