It occurs to me that everyone here has purchased a firearm. You filled out a 4473 and had to produce ID, which was then photocopied by the FFL. Why aren’t you bent out of shape about that?
Not sure what county you’re from but I have Never had an FFL photo copy my ID. both my SOC #and DL# are written on the 4473 no photo copies requiredIt occurs to me that everyone here has purchased a firearm. Fair enough, I’ve had it done to me by FFLs in both Onondaga and Oswego Counties. But they did record your DL#, which is what got this discussion going. Not sure what county you’re from but I have Never had an FFL photo copy my ID. both my SOC #and DL# are written on the 4473 no photo copies required
I thought it was already a law to show ID when purchasing alcohol and tobacco?
What makes you think we aren't bent out of shape about it?Why aren’t you bent out of shape about that?
Hmm, interesting. I’ve purchased many guns over the last 38 or so years in NY in multiple counties , the majority in ONondaga and Not One FFL has ever photo copied any ID.Fair enough, I’ve had it done to me by FFLs in both Onondaga and Oswego Counties. Gas station in town has software requiring a valid id scan for any age restricted products.
Did you tell the FFL you wouldn’t do it and say “do you want to sell this gun or not”?What makes you think we aren't bent out of shape about it?
If only that would work.Did you tell the FFL you wouldn’t do it and say “do you want to sell this gun or not”?
Not following the rules because you feel you shouldn't have to.Entitled to what? Their store bar scanner tag that tracks your spending habits that are sold on the marketing market and God knows where else, is voluntary, I don't participate. Even though the practice of carding an obvious senior citizen is blatantly stupid, I volunteer my proof of age, That is all that is required. There is much to be learned from the numbers that identify you and I do not participate, obviously it must not be a store "requirement" for buying beer or I would not have been able to complete my purchase. What if I didn't have a drivers license? Again, who's entitled? I don't even understand the premise. Just an intentional mischaracterization, typical.

Clearly it was a store requirement and the manager chose to get a jack wagon out of there and risk it. It does happen. Congratulations, you “stuck it to the man” with resistance. It doesn’t make you right.Entitled to what? Trust me on this. She was fed up with you.My my my, aren't you the hostile little twit. Another mischaracterization of self serving blather. Actually the exchange was rather amiable, I suspect she was as fed up with the absurdity of it all, as well.
You need anger management.

I would assume that the scan of ID is to prevent the cashier from becoming a weak link. Visual verification is all well and good, but the burden of proof rests on the cashier, who can lie for someone they know. Scanning the ID prevents keypunch error and removes the cashier from the chain, in some respect. Blame for this probably lies with assorted agencies who conduct stings and try to entrap businesses to collect fines. It’s only natural businesses are going to go to extremes to not fall into the trap.
Of course, this assumes that the scan is just a go/no go checking mechanism and not a data entry and storage setup. But unless you’re familiar with the POS system in use, you won’t know, the cashier won’t know, and likely the store manager won’t know either.

Check out California's shit storm of regs. A good docuseries is "Murder Mountain".I'm still wondering what container bearing a NYS Tax Seal will be required to (first buy), store and transport weed. ...and what stops you from reusing it, and getting weed from the guy in the alley?
I regularly park at the Legion, and walk over to a pkg store that “requires “ scanning a DL to make a purchase. I whip out my Utah Pistol License and foil the scan plan. “You don’t have a Driver License?” they ask. “Nope” I coyly reply. My my my, aren't you the hostile little twit. few years ago i was poking thru NY business laws and came across a section and from reading and understanding of it , no matter what the store is selling , if you think the customer is a illegal alien you can ask for legal papers ie green card , passport ect for proof that there valid to be in the USA or its a NO SALE ...
