I still don't understand why no one has made a ballot initiative to make a law that makes raises for legislators, Etc. something that goes on the ballot for the people to vote on.

He then proceeded to tell us how horrible the state was in the past and how they agreed to do all this other stuff and went back on their word. It was rather comical and he looked like a moron.

Ballot initiatives are something everyday people can do by having a proposition and getting enough signatures to get it on the ballot. Look what happened in Oregon with their latest gun control. That was a ballot proposition.

What I am referring to circumvents the legislature/normal legislative process. So no, they wouldn't be giving up their power to give themselves raises. The people would be taking it from them.

I don't understand where you are coming from. Ballot referendums are direct voting. Any person can start one and if they get enough signatures in a certian time frame, it goes on the ballot. What does the leadership of any political party have to do with it?

I don't see anything in there that states an initiative must have the consent of political leadership to proceed. Unless you are talking about some kind of political interference at the county level via activist employees (which I think would be illegal). The only thing that may be able to happen, would be for Hochul to veto it should it pass.
