If anyone has a state renewal up in the next year, RENEW NOW on the state police website. I don't know about after 9/1, but mine renewed no problem. You can renew up to a year early. It buys you 3 years until you have to take the course. I cannot imagine the landscape looking the same in 3 years, I think they will get smacked down hard way earlier than that.

I thought there was a thing that said if you were up you had one year to renew in the law. I could be wrong since there is so much going around. So I wouldn’t expect your renewable to get you the three or five years you’re planning

I wouldn't worry about any recertification. Let them come for you. In my case the 65,000 or so permit holders in my county of nearly a million. That's 6.5%. We are clearly in the minority. They don't have the resources to do it anyway. They rely on you being compliant.

NY isn't a 2A state, its not even a hunting state anymore. Any firearms owned here are held by less than 10% of the state population. We have no public state ranges like in PA here. Hunting clubs and private ranges is all there is and there isn't a load of people looking to join anyway. We are a small community. You all know I'm telling the truth here. Supposedly when you recertify/renew (not sure if it is just a recertification or a renewal) you will also be required to pass all of the egregious requirements as if you were applying initially.
So you will need a 16 hours course and 2 hours of live fire training, AND you will need to provide your social media information, etc.

And, for those who say "I'm just moving my guns out of state", remember, if they pull your permit they will most likely also brand you a felon, thus eliminating your Right Nationwide. (yes, I am one who will most likely be moving my guns out of State until this bullshit is thrown out, or I can move out, or I die)

I recently spoke to someone in the court system who has direct knowledge from Saratoga County Judge Murphy. According to the source, the leaked email excerpt was not Judge Murphy or Saratoga County Sheriff Zurlo’s decision. It was the suggestion of an Attorney at the State Sheriff’s Office which was passed on to Saratoga County among others. Judge Murphy and Sheriff Zurlo basically said, “thanks but no thanks,” and have no plans to delay or hinder the permitting process in Saratoga County. This includes the requirement to “meet with the Judge” to determine “good moral character.” Will other New York Counties take the same approach?

The Saratoga County Sheriff and Judge do not agree with the recommendation from the Sheriff Council Lawyer. The Saratoga County Sheriff and Judge are proceeding with the teaching of the classes, issuing licenses, and keeping the pipeline open. I was told there will be no stoppage of the issuing of permits during this time.

It’s my understanding ( which can be wrong) that a lot of the prior training we have had can count toward the new requirement of training hours.

If you read the fine print, those of us that already have permits already are getting screwed too. Even worse because some of us went from unrestricted, to restricted [criminals] on a late Friday evening by the stroke of a pen.

However, I'm not sitting on laurels, I'm donating to gun rights organizations, writing and calling politicians, and vocalizing my concerns on here.

Exactly. I know of plenty of people that have enough of a hard time sitting through hunters ed and doing the test just to hunt and there is no 2 hour live fire training. Umm, also no one can touch a pistol in NYS unless they have a permit.

I agree with you on that one. One exception is the military qualification. If you qualified in the military, you met the NYS requirement.
I dont know if a Hunter safety course will count toward the training hours.
I don’t know if they will demand a police firearms training certificate from me or not. I have the LEOSA stuff but it might not be as hard a nightmare for me to prove the training hours
