Been following the bouncing ball, as with many of these type threads there is no easy answer. One question I have. What does his being a Veteran have to do with anything? (Yes, I'm a Veteran.) IMO that would hold him to a higher standard, thus he'd follow rules and regs. Seems he didn't. And please save the Oath of Office references crap.

IMO, him being a veteran really doesn't have much to do with this other than he's got more invested in defending the constitution than someone who isn't a veteran.

I already hate the politicians in this state. So I haven't viewed the video. Judging by ya'll posted reactions, I don't think it will put me in positive mood.
It's so sad about NY. I hear many stories about how it is so nice upstate (Hudson valley, the lakes and mountains)(and the people are good too)
I live down here on Long Island. Lower NY area and NYC is a cesspool of the state - IMO. I can't say I hate this place cause it's the people that make it a SHIT HOLE.

I think veterans are given a certain amount if respect, as they are viewed as "the best of our population" based on the rigors if what they have to go through to get and be there. I think that respect also places them in a light that they should also be morally "better" if you will, to some people. I guess even I view veterans with a certain reverence for facing danger and possible death just to protect our country and its way of life

It could not "be any of us" unless you violate the SAFE act. The charges were no trumped up to "get somebody".
If you are careless enough not to be aware of the laws governing guns in the second most anti-gun state in the nation then when you are arrested you should not be made a hero. To do so diminishes the real issues that should be funded to produce court challenges that have a chance of success.
You might note that no pro gun organization or the legal team that won Heller is rushing to fund the defense of this guy. No point in wasting scarce money on a 100% lost cause.
If you're contributing to this guy's lawyer new Lexus and are not, at minimum, an NRA Life Member, you're an enemy, not a friend of those of us who support reining in an overarching government and the bureaucratic pals.

And yet nothing gets solved! No one sees the other side of the coin. "We're" dead fast set in our own opinions and no one else's point/argument is given the slightest amount of consideration. This and other posts have rambled on and on, doing nothing but turning into a pissing contest. It's a gray world, but some issues are clear black and white. Or if you'd like, Point of Law. One's feelings don't change a law, even if it completely wrong. Change is brought about by actions.
The sensational statement of this person being a Veteran makes not one difference to the circumstances. His being a Security Guard might, as he should be aware of the law(s). Anyone else who finds themselves in a similar situation will be fighting the same battle. Posts on a web site will do nothing to correct a wrong that so many of us could be subject to.

As for the rent-a-cop case it IS NOT worthy of a SCOTUS challenge. Heller WAS because the plantiff had not violated the law, been charged, indicted and convicted.
I suggest Spat put together a legal team and funding to challenge the law w/o becoming a criminal first.
