The article later on alludes to that (Of those who switched, over 70% lacked access to Level 2 charging at home, and slightly fewer than that lacked Level 2 connections at their workplace.) , but their claim that the cars NEED several hours is just flat out unquestionably false.

But, everyone who has a gas-powered motor vehicle has access to rapid "charging" everywhere they go.

Until it is as easy and fast to charge an electric vehicle as it is to fuel an internal combustion vehicle, then electric vehicles will not meet the needs (and convenience) for many users.

So one of the major draws to buying an EV is canceled because they will mandate it "has to make noise" when moving.

It only makes noise at low speeds and it is projected forward. You can’t even hear it from inside car unless windows are down and you are driving next to something that can reflect the noise.

EVs will be adopted en masse in the next 5-10 years because they are cheaper to operate. Most people use their car to drive less than 30 miles back and forth to work. Come home, plug in car and it charges overnight. You only need a 15 or maybe 20 amp outlet. If that doesn’t work for your needs, fine, but the opportunity is there for those who can work around this.

Oh I 100% agree with you here. I was calling out blatant inaccuracies in the article that was posted, nothing else.

If you want my opinion on EVs I don't think they are ready yet for mainstream adoption. They:
-would require massive overhaul of the grid and additional power generation.
-can't be refueled nearly instantly
-lack towing capacity
-are more expensive to purchase
-have decreased low temperature range.
-etc.

There are lots of reasons that EVs aren't yet ready. That's still not a good reason to make up BS that EVs NEED several hours of charging to get 35 miles of range.

You could have said almost the exact things about a horse and buggy ~125 years ago. Technology will improve and the market will adapt. Think of how much effort it took to build the infrastructure needed to put gas in cars.

It likely will, but today isn't tomorrow. I'm interested in and not ruling out EVs when they can meet my needs, but I'm not going to buy something thats an EV just because it's an EV.

Yeah, any vehicle's range goes down when you increase the loaded weight, it's just physics. But you are right, they don't share that data, and there is a reason why. It's not pretty. If you're towing, you absolutely don't want an electric vehicle, at least not today.






They addressed that issue by having the cars make artificial noise.

At speeds above 18.6 mph, both gasoline and electric cars generate noise from wind resistance and tires. But below that threshold, electric vehicles are often silent, which is why the new U.S. regulations require these cars to emit sounds of different frequencies while traveling at speeds up to that limit.​

The government didn't force the adoption of autos by making horse and buggy sales illegal. If you have to force the adoption of new tech, it's probably not good tech.

Yeah. Our Nissan Leaf has a weird fake sound louder (really) than an ICE at low speeds. Very annoying. Not all cars have these sounds though.

one of the main draws to an EV Jeep is to be able to creep through the woods to see wildlife. Kind of hard if your normally-silent EV is shouting its head off because stupid drivers can't look out for pedestrians.
