The point of sale for ammunition is not federally regulated. No one has to obey the laws of other states as they do with firearms. Walk in to a PA gun store, pay cash, and walk out. Same with body armor.

I wonder about buying a semi auto rifle in another state without a permit. The permit is not required to POSSESS, only purchase and take possession. In theory it should be perfectly legal.

Yes. Very much so, with no inconvenience.

Until now, in upstate counties, life was not very different from being in more pro-gun states such as PA, VT and NH.

Even post-safe act, state police recertification was pre-filled out on-line and if nothing changed since last time, just agree, submit and print.

The list of restricted areas was short, and mostly made sense. Schools and post offices are a federal reg, and courthouses and a few other places are pretty typical state laws.

It is a sick and otherworldly feeling to know that I can run into a pizzeria after work for another 2 months.. After that, I turn into a crazed killer who must lock up his firearms. Except at work, where I see state and county officials all day and they are happy to have armed protection.

I go to NY, I go to PA. In NY I have (had, I guess) an unrestricted. Same for PA. Day to day life in either state is (until September) the same as anywhere else.

Yes, many states have renewals. I have almost a dozen licenses and they all renew. Virginia needs fingerprinting every 5 years. New Hampshire needs $100. Utah needs an all-day class upon first application. Some are mail-order, some you have to drive there. When I was on Long Island, I drove to PA every 5 years.

Even in Vermont, which has been Constitutional Carry since before there was a Constitution has some restricted areas and pretty much always had.

They did not empty all the jail cells for nothing. You have protesters that never went inside the capitol on Jan 6 in jail for over a year.
The left is playing hardball . They would love to charge every gun owner in NY State with a felony and have us spend 4 years in jail.
Disarmament is the goal. Throw so many places one cannot go and folks will not carry in public. .In a special way the disarmed you. . By using fear.
Many people out there if they are arrested lose their jobs. This is not something to take lightly. It is a very serious situation for all of us.

Every other state in which I've held a permit, even the pro-gun states, the permit has had a 3-5 year expiration date. Except for Massachusetts, which is one year. The difference is that they are shall-issue states, and the process (including cost) is much more tolerable.

Even many pro-gun states have areas which are statutorily off-limits for CCW. There are also pro-gun states in which "no forearms on premises" signs carry the force of law.

Not saying I agree or disagree with anything that's going on here in NY. Just adding to the bigger conversation.

I strongly suggest caution, because if the talk of 'bring on the laws' continues, it will divide the 2A community. What will happen is those who advocate living with the laws and fighting thru the courts will adopt a 'I don't have to outrun the bear, I have to outrun you' attitude towards the less law compliant. I just have to sit back and wait until you get nabbed and see how serious this all is.

I don't want to do that. I don't want you in trouble either.

And yes, I know about John Adams. But that was a foreign occupying force, And even though the British used many brutal tactics such as prison ships, they occasionally had a sense of honor.

And most of all, once the British were gone, there were no lifetime felony penalties. Everyone got their guns back.

Going to a store with a gun is a felony for a reason.

Dear Govna! The courts have ruled that Law Enforcement has no "duty" to protect any citizen, man, woman or child.

Sorry my friend, but you are way off here. This is a common mistake that people make when they own rifles and shotguns but have little to no experience with handguns.

In other states, you walk into a gun store, find a handgun you like, fill out a 4473 and plop down your money and the gun is yours. Not even close to NY.

In NY you need a Permit to Carry Concealed just to possess or own and purchase. You fill out the 4473 plop down your money and you get a coupon. ( if you have a permit) Sorry, no permit you are not allowed by law to even touch a handgun.

Other states buying a handgun would like buying a shottie in New York state. Buying a handgun in NY is very different than buying a handgun in other states.

I know, and fully understand. Especially now that there are 25 Constitutional carry states.

I am using my own experiences, in the two states I am in each and every day, with the emphasis on my day to day life.

Where I can carry, where I cannot. What I have to worry about, what I don't. Common everyday movements.

And I also pointed out that each state that I have a license for has hassles and hoops to jump through.

Up until this fiasco, my two states did not feel very different day to day. But that's just me. Up until now.

Let's not forget the time it takes to add a gun to your permit. Recently it took almost 8 weeks from the time of purchase until I could pick it up. Tell me again how this is like other pro gun states?
