That’s not what happened. Go look at the video again .The partner wasn’t complicit even if you believe it was planted.
And internal affairs love to arrest cops . They don’t report to the same supervisors as those cops do. They get points, overtime and “ promotions “ ( detective shields ) based on arrests of cops . Everything you are hearing is based on the legal aid society’s version and edit. Important part is where the guy said “ we smoked it”. Marijuana arrests were routinely dropped ( sealed ) back then .
Nyc district attorneys love to prosecute cops to appeal to the anti cop crowd and have their own investigators. If there was something, they would prosecute . Go look it up. At a minimum, they would plea bargain that the cop wouldn’t get prosecuted if he quits his job, That didn’t happen here.

Assaults during an arrest don't count for this discussion since the officer initiated the encounter and the criminal obviously didn't seek them out and ambush them.
And you said assaults that occurred off duty aren't counted in that stat either.
So I'm not sure what value it has to this discussion?

Some are if ruled in the performance of duty at some point. For example, an off duty officer is targeted and the guy says get that cop as in the one example I already gave. That would be on the FBI stat for officers assaulted. If not proven to be “ duty related “. It would go into the general crime number—and assaults on on duty officers also are added the general crime stats as well. But the assault has to be proven to be connected to his profession,
And assaults or other crimes against retired officers only get added in the general crime statistics.

It is INSANE that retired cops get special treatment. They are not special, they are not cops. They should follow the same rules as all other regular citizens.
What did that guy tell you the gate entrance screening was like?
Metal detectors? Scanners? Pat downs?
Did that study include or exclude "on duty assaults"? I bet the vast majority came when attempting to make arrests. I bet a significantly smaller percentage were targeted off duty non working attacks when they were out in public looking like regular every day civilians
I agree with you. I'm sure police officers are at risk of being attacked when off duty. But so are regular citizens.
Maybe police have a 1 in 5,000 chance at being targeted in an attack specifically because the attacker thinks "now's their chance to get even with a cop" where us common peasants maybe have a 1 in 10,000 chance of being attacked.
We are all at risk to one degree or another.
I can make the exact same opposite argument that police are LESS LIKELY to be attacked than random people. Police are more likely to be more alert, have better situational awareness and be in better physical condition than random civilians. Who is a criminal going to think is an easier victim a police officer or a weak old lady, an out of shape fat guy, a feminine guy, an attractive 20 year 100lb girl.
Criminals will attack the easy mark not someone giving off subconscious ques they are a hard target.
Who's more likely to be profiled as an easy victim?
Everyone is entitled to the same rights.

Ahm, you assume that the retired police officer isn’t that old lady or old man or that 100 pound female. It’s not what it used to be.
As far as being alert, I used to be. Medical issues and just being out of the game have diminished those skills. Doesn’t make me less of a target if I wear something that identifies me as law enforcement.
Same rights huh, Okay so you should be allowed to carry in a secure area like a police officer or corrections officer can? Or a courtroom. I could carry into a state courtroom until I retired but could not carry in a federal court. Do you think I should have been able to carry into a federal courthouse too? Feds and federally deputized cops could . Or do you agree to those limits?

I as a private citizen (vetted by the state with a legal pistol license) should have every single comparable right an off duty or retired police officer has.
its a different conversation when discussing an on duty officer. What i want and what I'll get are 2 separate things. I'm more willing to begrudgingly accept an on duty officer will in the course of their duties be given access and rights I as a citizen do not have.

This is getting off topic but I absolutely think I should be legally allowed to carry my gun in schools, courts, government buildings and airports. I'm not a criminal and the state has investigated me, deemed me not a public threat and being of sound mind that I should be able to exercise my rights. I also think retired and off duty cops should be able to as well.

The clock doesn’t stop for an off duty officer . He still has to act if certain crimes are done in his presence including on school grounds or even outside his geographical area of employment if he or she is in New York State.
As far as retired cops, if you had a full carry permit you had almost the same rights before this new law as retired cops. The only difference was a retired cop could carry in NYC( you could too if you get the nyc attachment-special permit ) and we got to keep the magazines for our service gun provided we requal on the gun.
The ability to carry in NYC came about when they figured out that retired NYC officers ( there were more than NYPD who lived outside of the city couldn’t carry in the very city where they used to work and where the greatest threat to them would be). NYPD answer to them at the time was so don’t come back so no special permit addition. A lot interdepartmental and personal rivalry at the time. So they got the law changed .
