No, it’s saying there is a greater danger for cops and retired cops than the general public. It doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have the right to carry. It’s the BS that some call to disarm off duty/retired cops because the idiots in Albany passed some stupid law saying that cops don’t have a greater danger is what I object to. Or think that because we did get an exemption because we explained that greater danger to the liberal mind set and it worked , that it diminishes their chance of getting them to allow general carry forward them. It doesn’t . They would just screw over all of us. Some on this forum have expressed that they would rather see that then the current system .

That line of thinking is to break the divide and conquer strategy that the gun grabbers have employed so successfully.

They identify some minority of gun owners and vilify them and then ban the guns they use.

The AW bans are the perfect example. They did not go after the scary looking guns because that's where the crime is (that would be handguns). They went after them because a large percentage of gun owners (the fudds) would accept that.

They throw cops all sorts of privileges for no other reason than to keep you guys from being as vocal about your opposition.

They do it because it works.

Why else do you think cops get exemptions for personally owned AWs ?

But you cannot tell me with a straight face that the vast majority of cops in the NYPD are for the citizenry carrying. They are not. And they will without hesitation look for and arrest someone with a gun carrying in a so called sensitive place in NYC while upstate cops will look the other way and go about their business if they are someone that may be printing at the gas station.

I will tell you it’s a very large percentage. As far as breaking the law? It depends. There are plenty who will say “ have a nice day” if you are polite and have permit from Long Island or upstate( not good in NYC). They absolutely will make the arrest if the challenge is public and they can’t do it quietly. With the body cameras, it’s a lot tougher.
Ask yourself , how often do you hear someone with an upstate or Long Island permit getting arrested in NYC for simple gun possession without something else involved? It’s almost never. A friend of mine with a permit from Long Island got caught in NYC making a rare delivery for his business. He got caught. He was honest when the cop asked him if he had a gun and showed him his permit . The cop cut him loose. I don’t think they even know what a gun permit looks like-lol. But the point is , he didn’t piss the cop off, was honest and polite.

Knives in open view? They were big on that one as was Baltimore before Freddie Grey. But I know they cut a lot of breaks on that one too. Just don’t piss them off and they tell the guy just hide it in their pocket.
People from Long Island and lower Hudson aren’t as anti-gun as NYC. That used to be half the NYPD. Cops , even NYPD cops tend to be conservative.

It definitely can and does happen. Especially in a busy place where the cop doesn’t have time and needs quick compliance. Citizens don’t always understand why the officer needs quick compliance and “ questions” it.
For example, I have a ten year old kid shot being transported to the hospital by another car. I’m running blocker ( meaning zi am keeping intersections open for the car to get thru. A-hole while blocking the intersection wants to ask a question instead of moving his bus. I don’t have time for his question but he won’t move the bus as he keeps trying to ask the question. I tell him why he had to move the but still wants to ask the question. As I see the lights of the car with kid coming, do you think I was polite at that moment?
Just an example. I needed quick compliance. Not a bad person but too much in their own bubble . Now the rest is a CYA move because force was necessary. They got a ticket.
In a busy place, it might seem like a lot I’d going on, but the more time you have to spend on one “ job” there are six others on the radio that aren’t getting answered. I wish I could say that was rare were I worked in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Where I worked later had more time to cajole people because you didn’t have people literally dying waiting for you. But those days seem to have returned.

By the way, the kid lived.

Oh, I understand the hype generated. Edited video. A media that perpetrated lies like Mike Brown, Central Park 5(they are guilty as sin), Making of a murderer, Freddie Grey case, Aton Stirling even the Brenna Taylor case. A lot of lies and misconceptions in the media about those cases. Even Philando Castillo case.
It’s like coming into the end of a slasher flick where the main character shoots the bad guy over and over but you don’t see what the bad guy just did.
The media reports half truths or just gets all their information from a plaintiff and doesn’t hear the cop’s side. Imagine if you were never allowed to publicly present a defense if someone accused you of something. Best example is to compare it to if a woman at your job accused you of sexual harassment. HR does an investigation but you know they will say you did something wrong no matter what even if they say it didn’t rise to the level she claimed . Now add that complaint will be on your resume for your next job.

This so called corruption, racism, is nothing to what it was like twenty or more years ago and the old timers on the job then. They weren’t taking bribes but if you ran on some of them, a besting was sure to follow . It was street rules then. Talk back to them? Nope. Cops today don’t do any of that in general . I'm not basing my opinion an any video. I've seen it. I've been the victim of dirty cops lying and attempting to plant evidence in my vehicle. I've been the victim of police intimidation for not only going public with the proof of them planting evidence, but for having the audacity to press charges. The encounter lasted maybe 15 minutes, but the point is that he had NO reason to stop me, NO reason to DEMAND my ID, NO reason to run a check on me, and NO reason to act like a massive dick. Just a few days ago I received a letter from his lieutenant concerning the complaint that I filed about him and his actions. Although th Lt assures me that the actions of the trooper would be dealt with, I have NO reason to believe that, since the Lt confirmed that there was no audio/video of the encounter. Gee, I wonder how that happened. Cynical ? Yes. I am.

The vast majority of my encounters with police are either with commercial vehicle weight/inspection station personnel, US or Canada border agents, or the ones I encounter while predator hunting. Since 99.9% of the places a person would hunt have no local police department, any interaction would be with a Sheriff or a trooper. I can't say that I've ever had much trouble with a deputy. Sure, there were a few that weren't too nice, but none of them ever showed me the hostility and sheer eletism of any of the troopers I run into. Most of them have absolutely no idea about the regulations regarding hunting. Want to take a guess how many have told me it was illegal to hunt at night ? How about a guess as to how many have told me that nightvision or thermal optics are illegal ? I ALWAYS carry a current copy of the DEC regs book with me for just such an occasion. It has come in handy more than once.

I'm not saying you don't face danger. I face danger every day too. You think an 80,000 pound vehicle isn't dangerous ? What I'm saying is that you're no more special simply because you are or were a cop. I've been on a grand jury a couple times. You think they aren't targeted for retribution ? By your standards, I should be allowed to carry my pistol into the fair, bit I'm NOT allowed to. Why ?

I have restraining orders against two different customers who have made repeated life threats against me and other employees simply because Honda would not cover under warranty damage they caused to their own vehicles. I’ve had customers pick up items off our service advisors desks and throw it at other people, had a customer pull a knife and threaten to stab an advisor all because he did not want to pay a diag charge simply because he felt all his repairs should be free as Honda made the car and thus should cover everything no matter what (pro tip if you don’t change your oil in 35k miles Honda ain’t gonna cover engine replacement) ever since covid started people in WNY have gotten more nasty and abusive towards customer service people. Since I am not allowed to carry at the Erie county fair I guess my life is less valuable than off any duty / retired law enforcement officers life.

It would not do me much good if I recognize the threat. (Assuming I spotted the threat right away, which in a large crowd of people may not always happen) With my current work injury I am unable to run. So if something were to happen I would not be able to easily exit the area.

the point is that law enforcement is civilians like every other civilian. When not on duty should have to follow the same rules as every other civilian including firearm features and magazine capacity. Or is one human life worth less than another human life?

Not only is your situation an officer’s everyday but we are also under threat for being attacked by people we have had no prior interaction for what we did or used to do for a living . And I personally know what you mean by injury or health conditions preventing someone from running or effectively fighting an attacker .
But your situation isn’t common for a civilian but is very common for a police officer . Most civilians can go to the fair without a specific threat over their head.
Again, it doesn’t mean that I am against civilian carry. Heck, I’m for it. It protects my ability to do so too. But to say most civilians even come close to that threat , including your very real threat , isn’t the same size and scope of a active ( as in productive) cop. And your threat is a very serious one.

And the fact that you are given far more leeway to defend yourself is also a major factor that discourages such an attack.

I think that despite making a lot of enemies in your job that you are generally *safer* from unprovoked attack if you are recognized as an off duty LEO.
