Strange story. And not “home invasion by police”. She’s is an idiot who was off-duty. In my opinion, this had to be semi-intentional, domestic maybe? How did she enter the apartment? Something very fishy.

A Dallas police officer, who spoke with NBC 5 under the condition of anonymity, said the female officer was assigned to the department's elite Crime Response Team and had just finished a 14-hour shift serving warrants in high-crime areas. When she arrived home, she took the elevator to the 14th floor, though her apartment is on the 13th floor. She then went to what she thought was her door, put the key in and struggled with the lock. She then put down several things she was holding and continued to fight with the key when the resident swung open the door and startled her. The officer believed Jean, who was wearing only underwear, was an intruder and shot him with her service weapon. It wasn't until police and rescue units began arriving that she realized she was not at her apartment. Once realizing her deadly mistake, she became emotional and fully cooperated with officers, including offering to provide blood samples.

No mention of boozing it up after a 14 hour sift but it certainly would not be unusual. Not saying she was loaded but it is something to consider and I am guessing she has been tested for both booze and drugs.
Regardless, - and this is my personal opinion - I think that she is not fit to do the work she was doing. One would think, after not getting the lock to open that her first reaction would be to step back and check to see if it was the right door. She just kept trying the lock. Sounds like what either a pig headed person or a drunk would do. I'd also think that once the guy opened the door in his underwear, she might have been startled but being startled no reason not to think logically unless you are that easily unhinged and if such is the case then you do not belong in the uniform of a police officer. I would think a much more appropriate reaction would have been to say whoops, I guess I have the wrong door and then apologize and not to assume it was an intruder in her apartment and then draw and fire. I say that based on personal experience: I literally walked into the wrong apartment in my son's complex in AR (wrong floor just like this police officer) but I did not assume that the residents were intruders in my son's apartment - I assumed I had done something stupid and I immediately apologized and got my arse out of there going backwards fast. I was dog tired at the time and had thought I went up one more flight of stairs than I had climbed. So, as far as what the officer did, I think there just is something so wrong about that type of a mistake combined with that type of a reaction as to require a complete and painstaking psychological examination by an independent panel of mental health providers to determine whether or not she is fit for duty and if she has the proper mental capability to arrive at unemotional (or at least not overly emotional) logical findings based upon the circumstances in which she finds herself. Then again, that may not be necessary - she could be charged with what amounts to negligent homicide, convicted and fired.

Police haven't released the identity of the officer, though they did confirm she's a white female. The officer is not in police custody and Hall said Friday afternoon she wasn't sure of the officer's current location.

My thoughts are that the thread title is misleading like @dwa12479 said. She isn't the police. She's a criminal.
Something smells fishy! And an upstairs neighbor could certainly be the source of previous agitation or confrontation mainly with noise as a component. And yeah, 14 hours ain't shit! Try 7 Day weeks @ 18 hours for 6 days and 10 on the 7th... For 8 months straight... And never ever skipped a beat! Nearly put me in a hospital, but cognizant and fully aware at all times, lol.

The training, whereas the application of force is applied to effectuate compliance is the root of the problem, and the "threat" apparent or envisioned, secondary to the immediate use of force in order to gain control over a subject. If the officer was trained and proficienct in physically handling someone, the gun would've never come out. Sorry... But that's a fact!
Ultimately, this woman, oh wait - officer, is not going to be off the hook and at the very least I guarantee in today's environment, will be charged with manslaughter.
