Open Carry in NYS ?

Back in the day when I use to go to Phoenix there were a bunch of guys who use to open carry everywhere, every one has their own opinion. There is a open carry group out here that has many members. Once the guns are out of sight and out of mind it is easy to take them away when there are less gun owners and more anti gun or neutral gun people.

You all can do what you have to and I will do what I want to, I really don't give two shits what people say.
I will continue going about my business as i see fit.

Open carriers are attention whores. There is absolutely no tactical advantage in doing so in public confined spaces. If it were the case, Air Marshals would open carry.

There is no law specifically outlawing open carry, however in order to own a handgun in the state of New York you must have a permit, and that permit is issued for concealed carry only so by default you are only allowed to carry concealed.

Rifles are a different story, as there is no law outlawing open carry of rifles but I know that's not what you were asking anyway.

Here in the city a dude was walking around and took the bus with i believe a shotgun strapped on him. He got his balls broken but only for having it in the city without a permit after 48 hours. Just going by memory but I could be wrong. It was hilarious all the commotion it made.

One can absolutely carry an exposed (unloaded) long arm in NYC. A resident with a NYC permit would be 100% legal. A non-resident would technically only need to show that haven’t been in the city with the firearm for more than 72 hours (not 48) without applying for the permit, and even then it is only a criminal court summons.
