Orange County Amendment Time

I figured a thread like this would come in handy and since I dropped an amendment form in the mail at the local post office yesterday afternoon I'd start it off.

September 28th mailed amendment form to add a new pistol for my wife to our permits. Let's see how long it takes.

Today is 2 weeks to the day for me.

Yesterday was two weeks since I mailed in an amendment for a S&W Model 12 .38 Sp. ($170)( round butt). I guess I can say Monday it will be 2 weeks since it should have been recieved by the clerk. This is longer than my normal experience. They must be busy.

Hmmm. Is 2 weeks really longer than normal? When was the last time you added a pistol? Everything I read in a similar post on the old board said 3 weeks minimum. Here's to hoping you're right and its closer to two weeks.

Agree, 2 weeks is below average in my experience. I've had them take 4 weeks in the past, and I know for a fact they are swamped right now.

Yes, 2 weeks is what I have come to expect. I was kind of disappointed it didn't show up Friday or Saturday. In the past 5 years I've added 8 pistols. It's not like there has never been a screw up though. One time I opened my self addressed stamped envelope to find a young woman's ammended license.

I feel bad for you guys to a point. On the island we just do the Yahpank shuffle in Suffolk. You go buy a pistol or have one sent to your FFL, go there and get the receipt, drive out to plb in yahpank and pick up purchase doc and head back to FFL. Then take your purchase back to plb to have it added to license. I say I only feel bad for you to a point Becuase I wouldn't mind waiting 2 weeks if they let us have full carry and not the only to and from range crap.

Yeah, that's the up side to this county. I can't see the reason the amendments have to go through the judges. I'm sure they've got better stuff to do. My biggest gripe with this way of doing is it makes buying a pistol at a show pointless/impossible.

Got my amendment yesterday, was a little over 3 weeks. Off to pick up my new pistols tomorrow

green slip arrived, 3 weeks. I stand corrected.

Envelope arrived today with my wife's updated plastic card and a paper saying to check the numbers on the new plastic against the old. No green slip and no amended card for me. Kind of strange. I'm going to call tomorrow to try and see what's going on with mine. Maybe mine will arrive with the green slip since I was the one that bought the gun.

Called Wednesday and the lady said give it a couple of more days. Got home last night (Thursday, October 20th) and it was in the mail box. So since it probably didn't leave the post office until September 29th and was mysteriously delayed for 3 days after my wife's I'd say they're under 3 weeks(and closer to 2) at this point at least with Judge Freehill.

I wonder if there's any point in writing Clerk Rabbitt asking if she could pursue changing our system to how some other counties do it? I don't see the point of a judge needing to sign off every time you make a purchase. A voucher system would be great. That way you could go get a voucher and bring it to a gun show and buy a pistol. She's pretty pro 2A and might go for it.

Well I sent another amendment form in this morning. Let's see how long it takes this time. Its my Christmas present so hopefully it'll be done in plenty of time. Anyone else done an Orange County amendment lately? I'm guessing it'll still be between 2 and 3 weeks which is between 2 and 3 weeks too long.

No I haven't, but have been pondering adding another to the stable, so I would be curious also. I'm due for a Christmas present myself.

Yes, Freehill covers my area too. I really think that having the judge involved with adding a gun is a complete waste of their time and causes an unnecessary delay in picking your gun up. Many other counties don't bother with that.

Agree completely. Waste of everyone's time, but if it has to be, I'm happy we have Judge Freehill. Could be a LOT worse.

Paperwork arrived today. 2½ weeks. Judge Freehill. Wonder why it took so long for yours alistair. Off to Gander I guess.

Good luck in Gander though. Sometimes it takes as long in there to pick up your gun as it does for the paperwork to come back. Feels that way.
