Wow...Oswego County...same day service, while you wait
If you've got any business to take care of with the clerk's office - pistol permit related or otherwise, either do it now or wait till after the move.Orange County DMV office to move back to Goshen
GOSHEN – For the first time since the old Orange County Government Center was closed some six years ago, the motor vehicle office will return to the Goshen facility in a matter of several weeks.
The county clerk’s office moved to the campus of the Valley View nursing home, but there was no DMV office located there.
Now, County Clerk Annie Rabbitt is preparing to move back into the newly rebuilt government center in the Village of Goshen and with her offices will be DMV.
“A lot of people know you have to do business in one central location. It is going to better for the taxpayers and the executive side that is going to be in the building,” Rabbitt said.
Over the past several weeks, county offices, which had been spread out in other county buildings and rented space, have been moved into the new county facility.
NYS hoops people have to go throughIf you've got any business to take care of with the clerk's office - pistol permit related or otherwise, either do it now or wait till after the move.
I've heard that even if the move goes smoothly, its still going to be a cluster-f due to the volume of material to be handled.
Interesting to see what other counties do across NYS. This is all so foreign to me. I live in a rural pro=2A county. I go to a FFL, pick out a handgun, he gives me paperwork, I drive to PP Dept. They take info, input in computer, print out my new plastic amendment card, I pay fee and out the door. Go back to FFL and pick up my handgun, elapsed time maybe 1 hour.
So far it's been raining 3 weeks for me.Annie Rabbit, the County Clerk, came to speak at my gun club last week about pistol permit stuff. She's talking about proposing legislation that would make the Sheriff a licensing officer in addition to the current judges. As per the clerk, that would allow the sheriff to keep a deputy at the pistol permit office who would be able to immediately sign off on pistol permit amendments. Unfortunately, this would only positively effect those who have the sheriff as a licensing officer - not anyone who still had a judge signing their permit. She says she's looking for feedback before introducing legislation, so if you are for or against, give her a call. In my humble opinion, this stinks like the under-sheriff trying for a power-grab.
I asked why its taking the clerks office 3 and 4 and 5 weeks to send a permit out, when the judges are signing them in less than a week. I didn't get a straight answer to that though.
A lot of people keep telling me how the clerk is on our side and is a friend to Second Amendment rights, but every time I've spoken with her, I feel like she's peeing on my foot and telling me its raining.
The whole pistol permit system is a racket.just dropped an amendment form off today.. was told 2 - 3 weeks..
I also just found out that Judge DeRosa retired and now I will have a different judge (name began with a D also but i dont remember it right now)..
and the last thing is it is going to cost me 120 dollars (5 x 24) to co-register my pistols on my wifes permit (she is currently going through the application process).. I always thought the first amendment was included in the permit application.. This is such a racket its not even funny..
Got mine today. 1 day short of 4 weeks.Got amendment today it was 4 weeks exactly.
Curious. What's the gun? Cartridge?2 weeks now. For an antique that I would have to special order or custom make ammo for
Did I win?My last one took 4 weeks, dropped another off yesterday. I'll race you
You did, and now I'm 1 day after 4 weeks.Did I win?
Mine was signed on 2/5 and I got it in the mail on the 20th.You did, and now I'm 1 day after 4 weeks.
That's the frustrating part that the county clerk won't address. I used to be able to drop off an amendment on Monday and get it back in the mail on Friday when Donna Benson was clerk. And they used to charge $5 per amendment, no matter how many guns were added or removed. Now our clerk, who says she's pro gun, takes a month to process the same paperwork, and charge you $5 per gun.Mine was signed on 2/5 and I got it in the mail on the 20th.
