Orange County Amendment Time

I know a few people who are clerks for the judges who sign the amendments. Every one tells me the judges are signing amendments within a day, unless they are away or tied up with a big case - which is not often.

A funny thing... In Orange County, there is about a 3 month wait to get finger printed and drop off an application for a permit. On the other hand, if you call up to get pre-employment or Utah permit finger prints, they'll take you same day - using the same fingerprint machine that they blame for the delay. There is no reason for finger prints to take 3 months unless they're deliberately slowing the process.

Based on the panick buying of guns due to the Corona Virus, I’d imagine the FBI NICS system will be swamped. I made a mistake on my last purchase and was delayed due to it being a holiday weekend and me trying to pick it up on that holiday weekend. I had to wait 7 days to get it. Should I wait a week or so until this all dies down?

Because if I remember correctly NY now has a 30 day wait if you are put on hold.

If they don't get a "proceed" within 30 days, the NICS expires and they have to try again.

The artist formerly known as Bullet Guy suggested the FFL could run 2 NICS a day apart. That way there would still be a valid NICS in play after NY's 30 day mark goes by. Good luck talking the FFL into doing it that way.

In practice, if the retailer doesn't get a proceed within 30 days, the buyer is out of luck.

For what its worth, as far as I know delays weren't due to heavy volume. If you haven't had issues before, there shouldn't be a delay now.

But we've all gone full-retard, so who knows.

I obviously don’t have any black marks. Bought numerous and have a ccw from multiple states. But got put on hold on a holiday weekend. The clerk told me it was due to volume because many got put on hold.

So I took a chance and drove to collector’s in Hopewell Junction before going to work to pick up my pistol. There was a line outside the store that wrapped around it. Cars were parked on both sides of the road for quite a distance in both directions from people waiting in line.

Looks like I’m going to have to wait a couple of weeks anyway.

Haven't run too many NICS checks since the whole virus thing kicked off.
Last one I was on hold for an hour and a half, and that was a call made at 8 AM when I assumed that the NICS guys wouldn't be swamped by still-closed Western US dealers.
According to forum posts on other boards, NICS checks elsewhere are taking upwards to four hours in some cases....
The bigger problem is that my safe is filling up with handguns that I can't transfer to their buyers because no coupons are being released.

I posted in another thread that I went to two different gun shops for a private transfer. The first one said that they wouldn’t do it because it was a guaranteed hold. The second one said that they would but just know that it will be put on hold. So we left both and will try again in a couple of weeks.

To be honest, even before this whole virus scare some FFLs didn't like doing private transfers, which leaves gun owners in a jam if there is a lack of FFL options.
I've told my people to try and show up as early in the day as possible for their transfers. I don't care to experience the multi-hour holds that are being reported on other forums by gun buyers and FFLs.
I never bothered signing up for the E checks for all these years, but after the last week I finally broke down and submitted my paperwork. No idea how long it will actually take them to process it.....

I think the government center is closed. You can mail it in, but I haven't heard anything about what is being processed. The clerks are working, but some staff has ben moved around. The courts are only opening up now.

Judge Brown signed it March 25!
Almost 2 months to go from judges desk and into a self addressed stamped envelope.

Mailed in Sept 2nd, check cashed on 12th, received permit with new serial number BUT, they put the wrong serial number

how easy is Orange County to get this fixed? The put a P instead of a D. Is it easy just having them send me a replacement or do I need to go through all the paperwork again?

I built an AR pistol, so the green paper isn’t going anywhere. But my paper from the dealer has the correct serial number.

They put the wrong model number on mine. XOS instead of XDS. FFL let me pick it up. When I "recertified", I put XDS. I don't know nothing

I've got one that they put "0" (zero) instead of "D". I didn't catch it until after I got home with it.

i called them this morning, and since the paperwork didnt make it to Albany yet, they said they would get a judge to sign a new green form, but since I am already in possession of the serialized part, they said I can come in today and just get a new card.
