What are your requirements? How bright? What kind of batteries? What is your maximum budget?
Better to buy an expensive American made Surefire or several cheaper Chinese clones? I'm all for buying quality but not if you're the type who looses stuff regularly.

Not really "tactical" but I still really love my Zebralights. the single AA version puts out a little over 500 lumens for about $70 depending on where you get it. there is a 1850 lithium rechargeable model that does over 1000 lumens and is only somewhat bigger at around $100.

For an extremely lightweight flashlight with a pushbutton that you won't even know is in your pocket for carry there's this. I don't know how or why I ever carried a bulky AA or CR battery powered flashlight.

Yes. Waterproof and durable too. I've washed it and dried it a few times in the machine by accident.
I used it as an icepick.

I was at least 30 ft down in the middle of nowhere. The snow had crusted over with ice. I had 3 choices. Die. Use my light to dig my ass out of this shithole. Smash by smash/ navigate, drunk, through a mile+ climb.

Another vote for the Fenix PD35 (I own the 2014 edition). Another option, if you're looking for something a little smaller, is the Fenix PD25 (I own the PD22UE, which is the predecessor of the 25). Both are fantastic flashlights.

Im still using my cheapo cree flashlight from costco. 15 bucks for the 3 pack (gave 1 to my pops, 1 on my hip daily, and 1 is on my night stand). I swear it must be 5 years old and i use it everyday at work (subway system).

I've got some small Cree metal single AA-powered lights that I'm going to load with Energizer lithium batteries and keep in various packs.
I needed a tactical model to keep near my go-to pistol locked in a bedroom.

I picked up a streamlight protac 2l back in January and it has worked well for me. I never had good luck with cheap flashlights. I also wanted something that would take CR123a batteries, same battery my pistol light takes.
