and look up the time line to develop the Polio vaccine, it took YEARS ( actually, it took about 100 years) to develop, then it was suspended, then brought back, and was not declared eradicated until 1994.

I'm not sure how the timeline matters, the point was that is some circumstances vaccines have been more beneficial than natural immunity, because of the price of natual immunity to some deseases. And it took until 1994 to eradicate because smart-ass young parents decided vaccines were "bad", didn't vaccinate their kids, and gave polio a new lease on life when almost eradicated. It took a second round of cases to impress the slow learners.

I suspect Jmac brought up the timeline in an effort to show that the polio vaccine and these gene therapies that everyone calls vaccines are apples and oranges.

In any case, this is a discussion that requires consideration of nuance and detail. I think it should be brought to a different thread.
