We have to be some of the dumbest people on earth I swear. Now they want people to work longer hours to clear the backlog, have fed ex and ups to work more hours as well. Why wasn’t this thought of months ago? Just like GM a saying we’re going to buy computer chips directly from manufacturers? Why has no one thought of this before today?
Im not some supply chain guru but honestly this seems pretty basic 101 shit.
They are also saying this will last until 1st quarter 2022 and prices will be up until at least then. What happened to inflation and high prices only lasting a few months??

I watched a video last night, might have been Tucker Carlson, The interview person said the Port of LA has unloaded more cargotainers this year than Singapore, its the first time in history ANY PORT has beaten Singapore in unloading freighters.

I start one type of mechanic at ~$49k, and another at just over $60k. That is only base pay, and I have several guys happily doing a bunch of OT. Many join us with minimal experience, but that is largely due to lowering standards because of staffing difficulties. I have a couple people I wish I could pay more.

Been having the same thought for a while too.

The ChiComs shut down a port or major factory for one (1) presumptive "Case of COVID". Seen these a few times in the last month.

The CCP doesn't give a shit about the average Chinese citizen - it's always been that way in China.

So what if another half a million die? To the CCP that's just a rounding error.

Strategic "Shortages" of car and truck parts, computer stuff, steel, whatever, are purposeful because all of it impacts the fUSA supply chain - semi's not running, container shortage, port overloads, COVID causing a cohort of people who don't want to work, etc, etc.

I see nothing in this but the ChiComs taking the long term strategic view, something they've always done, and weakening every part of the fUSA infrastructure purposefully, almost simultaneously and, in many places, regardless of the size of the disruption.

Sooner or later, something small that doesn't appear important goes tits up, and that "Black Swan" spreads out to everything else in a cascade.

Years ago the ports ran 24-7, trucks in and out at all hours, sometime around the obama erea there were a lot of requirements added for trucks to get into the ports. Engines had to be "clean air certified" and no idling, the trucks even had to be clean! All these restrictions and covid, I can see problems. I know a few drivers that used to haul 'cans' in and out of the East coast ports and they stopped due to this. It would be easy for big Gov. to stir the pot a bit more and create a backlog.

Steel, a Republican from Orange County, introduced the SHIP Act, which would ban cargo vessels from idling or anchoring 24 nautical miles off Orange County’s coastline. If the legislation was adopted, the ban would immediately take effect up to 180 days or until President Biden announces the freight container crisis has ended.

“Cargo ships idling for months off the Orange County coastline have become an environmental and public health crisis. It’s time to get the ports working again and get these ships moving and out of our waters,” Steel claimed in a press release. “This crisis could have been prevented and it’s important that we protect our waters and coastline.”

Browne also explained such a ban may not prevent the next oil spill. It is still unknown what caused the spill near Huntington Beach on October 3. “It is hard to know if a ban such as this would have prevented the oil spill because we don’t yet know the details of what caused it,” he said.

Operating the port 24/7 will not cure the issue, because all it does is pile up more containers that sit idle as they await a limited number of trucks to pick them up. THIS is the central issue.

On October 16, 2020, the EPA reached a settlement agreement [DATA HERE] with California Air Resource Board (CARB) to shut down semi tractor rigs that were non-compliant with new California emission standards:

As you watch this really good discussion, think about how long Amazon Inc. has known about the problem in order for them to have put such a massive solution into place in order to avoid California.





Yes, years ago the private sector predicted this would happen, and they started taking actions to protect their supply chains. What these massive corporations did to reduce their exposure to supply chain disruption was to immediately formulate plans to divert their goods to other ports. This was a very expensive shift in supply chain and logistic efforts for these massive corporations, which includes: Amazon, Walmart, UPS, FedEx, Samsung, The Home Depot and Target.
