Saturday morning in Pittsburgh I arrived at Pitcairn-Monroeville Sportsman's Club, which is beautiful facility! The club offers something for every shooter, between trap and skeet fields, steel challenge bays, and a long range rifle range, this place is a playground! Those of you close enough to merit the drive I highly recommend stopping in to see what they have to offer, you wont be disappointed. This was my first experience with @OnSight Firearms Training so I wasn't sure what to expect right off the bat, I have done other courses but always get a bit nervous with something new. The instructor, Ben DeWalt was a great guy he offers solid instruction with a great sense of humor which helps break up the day and makes it fun. Pistol is definitely one of my weaker skills and its been a while since I've taken a dedicated pistol class. We started at the basics and the drills progressively got harder and harder through out the day. It really showed me where my weaknesses were and what I need to work on at home (and that I NEED/WANT a red dot). Ben never gave the group more than they could handle and by the end of the day had everyone running and gunning. The next morning there was no rest for the wicked, we were right back at it with the long guns. Some of the guys from saturdays class stayed on for the sunday class which made a cool environment because we already knew and trusted each other. Most the morning was spent with "warm up" drills and me getting my bell rung by @Podmonkey Galil. It was great to meet him there for both days and hes a cool dude in real life. After awhile the oy vey, oy vey, oy vey (the sound the Galil makes according to Ben) didn't even bother me even when it was over my head. Sundays group had a bit more experience then Saturdays and I think Ben saw that so he opened up the later half of the day to some shooting and moving drills and working as a team, which was awesome as I've never run those drills. I learned a crap ton of new, material had a blast, and even got to rip through a mag on the Galil, THANKS @Podmonkey. All in all it was an awesome weekend, the weather held out, and I made some new friends. I cant wait to pick up another course with Ben and @OnSight Firearms Training, hopefully pick up another pistol class and really want to get into a shotgun class before winter hits too.
