Which is why I've selected a Benelli for the Mrs.

These pistol caliber carbines are cool, and while not my cup of tea, definitely make sense for a lot of shooters. Very utilitarian without doubt, but I'll still take the 12 gauge for cqb.

My wife agrees regarding follow-up shots with an MSR or PCC. She's fine going through 100 20-gauge slugs in a single session at the range (why? I don't know.). But, she can get subsequent shots on target much faster, and more accurately, with an MSR.

BTW - I DO NOT enjoy shooting slugs through a shotgun.

PCC is something i want but not because SHTF more for a plinker with the same controls as an AR platform. I feel if im in a situation where I need to shoot past pistol distances (20-25 yds) then Im gonna want a dedicated rifle round to do job.

I hear you but dead is dead whether you get hit with a .223 bullet or a bullet going the velocity of a .357 Magnum.

No one is saying that it's better than a rifle. It's just a good alternative for someone inside the home for reasons stated in previous posts and for someone bugging out on foot that has weight as a concern and can instead use the same magazines and ammo as his pistol.

A rifle is always better but a PCC isn't too shabby for defensive purposes under 150 yards.

Pistol carbines are great for many uses.
They make great close range defensive firearms that might use same ammo and magazines as the pistol.
The 357 and 44 magnum are good hunting rounds for moderate ranges.
The 44 and others should be allowed in all the places they only allow shotguns.
Some might be pistol but behave like a high velocity small rifle round or pretty close... 7.62x25, 357sig, 5.7FN, 9x25dillon, 357/44magnum, 22x25 (TMC), etc...
Another good reason is because they are a lot of fun.

Harder to find and expensive when you do but I think the M1 Carbine is the best home defender out there, more punch than any pistol caliber semi auto and not to much more blast. A .357 lever carbine would work well too. I have moved to my AR though after seeing tests that show 5.56 penetration less through walls and barriers than pistol calibers. The blast is a problem however. My poor 590A1 hasn't seen the day for some time!

I'm using a 9mm PCC for practice and a training tool.

I've started taking non-shooters as guests to a local range after work. Those that have never fired a rifle definitely start with 22LR just to get a feel for the firearm. Next, we move on to the 9mm carbine. Then, they get a chance to take some shots with a .223 rifle.

After taking two members of my office staff to the range, many more want to go. Some of them have their targets posted at their desks. That really irks my Liberal colleagues. Good!

And to add to that at least for me anyways, if I'm on the move with family in tow, I do not plan on getting into firefights that require the use of a real rifle at rifle distances. That'll just get all of us killed.

It'll be strictly a defensive carbine that'll extend my range a bit and accuracy along with having the ability to take down small to medium sized game if I do my part with proper shot placement.

Just one caliber and one type of magazine to worry about is the point for me.

It seems to me the AR even with the fu cuomo prs/exhile stock is the most versatile and flexible option.
For pistol, specially those with dedicated lowers that take your pistol magazine. ie: Glock.
Another alternative is your pistol with one of those 16" barrels and stock chasis. They enjoy the trusted
reliability of the Glock. You have them for the 1911 too.

That's exactly my setup but I have since removed the buffer tube cover for easier conversion to a normal configuration when I go to PA. One screw removes the stock, regular grip goes back on with the same screw and the stock slides right on the naked buffer tube.

I go to the Pike County Public Shooting Range in Milford, PA. It's like 30 bucks for the whole year. Free if you have a PA Hunting License. It's outdoors.

The only downside is a 3 round limit for long guns and a 6 round limit for pistols.

3 rounds per mag?! Is that a standard rule for all the PA public ranges? The local FFL I use is building a shoot house, I'll be getting a membership there when it's done. There is a nice range facility that I need to get membership to bout 20 miles from where I'm at. The big attraction for me is they have lanes with steel from 50 to 500 yards. I gotta find a sPons or and attend a meeting first though, and that is difficult with my being away most of the time.

The range itself is cool. You see AR's all day long. Some guys ignore the rules. There are no range officers but Park Rangers have been known to come by. I've never seen one in the ten or so times I've been there though.

I don't really mag dump per say but I do like to practice rapid controlled pairs and rapid aimed fire, 1 shot per second or so. And I like to use my 30 rounders and my magpul drum, wild that send folk into coniptions? Doesn't really matter, there don't seem to be any public ranges near me anway.

Private ranges and private property the sky is the limit. Crazy the Ammo restriction though.

I mean, it's a joke here anyway. Even with "compliant" gear most are nervous about taking their toys out to shoot. See, they didn't need to take them away... Just take away are ability to practice and make a solid shot lol.

F'em... I love my MPX! ARs, etc. pistol caliber are def a lot of fun. I may pick up a dedicated 22LR pistol upper next just for fun. Anyone have one?

I love my 20" Lever Action Rossi 92. It's a PCC as far as I am concerned. It tosses 38 specials at near 357 magnum handgun speeds, and I can toss 125 grain 357 magnums at nearly 2000 fps.

Lucky bastard. Been looking for a 16" SS model in 38/357. Funds just wont allow it right now unless it is at a great price.

My only hangup with the 16" models is losing 2-3 rounds. I can hold 10 magnums and 11 specials in the current 20" barrel tube. But a 16 inch barrel would be a handy rifle. The SS Model should be in the $500 ballpark if you can find it.

I too have been looking for a solid .38/.357 lever. Cowboy action drove the prices up to make me consider getting a Rossi. Reasonable enough price but I hear back and forth about feeding, reliability, etc....
