I seriously doubt that anyone's intent was to shut down 911.As usual, a very erudite post.
We're quickly coming into a world where as you say, people are following the law only because they fear the consequences, not because they respect it. Trust in law enforcement, politicians, media, just about any institution or hierarchy is at an amazing all time low and I don't see it getting better anytime soon.
I not quite sure what to think about this particular case. Clogging 911 I don't agree with as it puts others lives at risk. I also personally would not want to go to jail for a guy who is a wife beater (if that really is the case). The problem is who do you trust? If I put out a call that I was getting red flagged and the cops were at my door to take my guns I would hope that by putting out a call folks on this forum or pro-2A folks elsewhere would come to my aid. We also don't want to get into a "boy who cried wolf" scenario as that makes us all look bad too.
These things happen so fast there's no time to fully analyze a situation to see what the best course of action is.
They all wanted to send a message for sure, but I doubt any of them thought there would be enough of a reaction that it would cause a problem.
